Is Cape Town really a World Marathon Major?

Yes, it’s official: the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon was confirmed on June 10, 2026 as the 8th World Marathon Major, following an application launched in 2021 and validated during the May 2026 edition. The first Major on African soil, it will make its official debut in the series on May 23, 2027.
