Antibes: set your sights on your next race

Wedged between Nice and Cannes, Antibes plays on every terrain: flat seafront, the Cap’s trails, and the backcountry hills. Sun, night trails and triathlons set the rhythm of your season 🌊.

Set on the French Riviera, between Nice and Cannes, Antibes extends its peninsula into the Mediterranean. Its old town coils around Port Vauban, one of Europe’s largest marinas, watched over by Fort Carré. To the south, the Cap d’Antibes juts out to sea, while Juan-les-Pins stretches its pine grove all the way to the sand. Inland, the landscape rises gently toward Valbonne. To complete the area’s map, add Cagnes-sur-Mer and Grasse, the perfume capital 🌿.

As a playground, Antibes lets you choose the scenery. The coastal path rounds the tip, brushes past coves, then climbs up to the Garoupe lighthouse 🌊. Look up: the slopes of the backcountry, extended farther on by the Esterel massif, keep some elevation in store for anyone who likes to suffer a little. The climate plays fair, too. Mild winters and bright autumns—ideal for stacking training runs when the rest of France is shivering. In summer, the heat hits hard from noon, so you schedule your sessions early in the morning, facing the blue. This gentle weather sums up the whole area: here, you run all year round.

Now for the bibs. The up-and-coming rendezvous? The Urban Trail d’Antibes, a night course that slaloms between the old town and the seafront in November 🌙. Launched in 2024, it fills a gap locals had been asking for for a long time: it took the organizing club nearly nine months to deliver this first edition, quickly becoming a classic. In October, the Triathlon des Roses starts from Salis beach in support of the fight against cancer, in a solidarity format that’s 100% women-only 🌼. For pure road running, Courir pour une Fleur offers a 9K followed by a half marathon in February, when mimosa colors the hills. Trail lovers spice up their winter with Le Calvaire Antibois, while the holiday lull rolls into the Saint Sylvester Triathlon and Duathlons. Up-and-coming athletes have fun on the Kids Trail d’Antibes. You’ll find all this crowd—with dates in hand—in Antibes’ race calendar, with plenty to broaden your view among the races in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Between training runs, Antibes feeds the mind as much as the legs. Pablo Picasso set down his brushes at the Grimaldi Castle, now the Picasso Museum, facing the big blue 🎨. In Juan-les-Pins, the Jazz à Juan festival has been making the pine grove swing every summer since 1960. It’s there that clarinetist Sidney Bechet left such a mark that he still has his statue and his square there 🎷. The city is the birthplace of writer Jacques Audiberti, while Francis Scott Fitzgerald wrote his novels near the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc.

All that’s left is to choose your bib. Beginner aiming for your first half, trail runner looking for a night race, triathlete ready to get stuck in: everyone can find their race in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Antibes, the quintessential seaside town, is holding the start line out to you. It’s up to you to hit the right finish line 🏁.
