The event in a few words

Take on the challenge in the most “mountainous” marathon in a country without mountains! Aabenraa Bjergmarathon in Southern Jutland is one of the most demanding running events in Denmark 🏃. Although there are no Alpine peaks here, the route surprises with brutal, steep climbs (led by the famous Kongevejen ascent) that can really make you sweat. Distances range from the full marathon (42 km) and half marathon to 10 km, 5 km, and Nordic Walking marches, and the course runs through lush forests, scenic fjord surroundings, and the historic center of Aabenraa.

After tackling Aabenraa’s relentless climbs, the town invites you to relax in a calm Southern Jutland style:

Stroll along the historic Slotsgade street with its charming, colorful houses and visit Brundlund Slot – an intimate castle surrounded by a moat, now home to an art museum 🏰. Then head to the sandy Sønderstrand beach right next to the harbor, or spend some time up in the air at the rope park High Park Aabenraa 🌲. Visit the innovative science and technology park Universe Science Park on the nearby island of Als, or pop just across the nearby border to the charming German Flensburg 🚀.

To round off the day, try a local delicacy – regional grilled Ringriderpølse sausages and the distinctive eggs in brine (Solæg). For something sweet, be sure to discover the tradition of Sønderjysk Kaffebord, an abundant table piled high with homemade cakes and cookies 🍰.
