Ready to run where Clint Eastwood was quicker than his shadow? 🤠
Grab your most comfortable running clothes and shoes and head to Andalusia in the south of Spain 🇪🇸. In April, Almería will open its doors to you 🚪 for a half-marathon OR a 10 km that will make you live your own action movie! Unlike Hollywood actors, here there's no stunt double: you're the star! 😎 This time of year is close to the jackpot weather-wise: the sun shines enough for you to tan 😉, but without the summer heat that turns Andalusia into a giant sauna (that's for July, and honestly, thanks but no thanks 🥵). In short, weather-wise, you've hit the jackpot! 🎱
The course? As delightful as torrijas! 🍯 Between wide urban avenues and Mediterranean seafront, you're in for a visual treat 👀. The pavement will be your blue carpet (yes, yes, like in Cannes, but in running version), and trust us, you'll feel like a star on the red carpet... except in sneakers and sweat 😅. You have a choice between two distances ✌️. First, a 10 km, perfect 👌 if you're starting out or want to enjoy or simply blitz through a reasonable distance 🚀. You'll still have energy to sightsee after! 🗺️ Option number 2: the half-marathon. Here we step it up a notch! 21 km to explore Almería from top to bottom, from urban asphalt to the shores of the Mediterranean 🌊. It's the perfect format for those who love challenges... 💪 and who don't mind finishing with legs like jelly 🦵. The course will take you through the wide avenues of the Andalusian city, then along the coast with views of the waves 🌊 and the port ⚓️. Okay, at km 17 you'll mainly be thinking about the finish arch 🏁, but it's a chance to think about something other than your screaming muscles! 😜 And what pride at the finish! You can tell everyone for months that you ran a half through the set 🖼️ of the greatest westerns 📽️.
After the race, Almería is a runner's paradise, exhausted but happy! 😁 Go see the Alcazaba, this perched Moorish fortress offering a great view over the city 🏰. Don't forget the cathedral of La Encarnación ⛪️ or a recovery moment in the Arab baths, legacies of the times and the country's history. If you have time, after the white streets of the center 🏘️, head to the Cabo de Gata-Nijar natural park, a change of scenery guaranteed 💯. And most importantly, head to a restaurant to devour some tapas! Prawns 🦐, calamari 🐙, Iberian ham 🥓... You deserve it after all that effort, right? Fun fact: Almería and its surroundings have been the set for over 500 films! 🍿 From "A Fistful of Dollars" to "Game of Thrones", this region has seen it all. Except you with your finisher medal! 🥇 So, ready for your Oscar for best runner? 🏆
Lights... Camera... Run! 🏃♂️
The start will be at the Mediterranean Games Palace in the center of Almería 🎯. You begin with a nice descent towards the south until you almost reach sea level with the sea. 🌊 Between km 5 and 10, you will follow the Mediterranean coast from east to west 🧭. The terrain will be quite flat here, it's time to give it your all! 💪 At km 12, you will reach the farthest point of the course, at the port ⚓️, Rue Nicolás Salmerón. You will then start your return along the sea 🏖️. After a good refreshment at km 13, you will pass by the park in tribute to the victims of terrorism 🌳 and then continue your route on Avenue Cabo de Gata. You will head back towards the city center at km 17. The only small uphill section will be concentrated at the end of the course. The last kilometers will take place in the city avenues before returning to your starting point, Rue Alcalde Santiago Martínez Cabrejas! 💪
For this 10 km race, like the half-marathon, you will start from the Palacio de los Juegos Mediterráneos 🏀. You will follow the Río Andarax towards the sea 🌊 up to km 4. You will run along the Mediterranean seafront up to km 6 before heading back towards the city center on the Avenue Cánovas del Castillo. 🏙️ You will face about 20 mD+ which will bring you back to your starting point where the final arch will be waiting for you 🏁!
