Branicki Run in Branice (Głubczyce County, Opole Voivodeship) is an intimate and exceptionally welcoming event that every year attracts runners from the Opole region, Silesia, and the Czech Republic. The start and finish are usually located at the sports stadium of the “Orzeł” Branice club, giving the race a classic, track-and-field spirit. Runners can choose between two main distances – 5 km and 21 km, and the route leads through the picturesque areas of the municipality, including the villages of Michałkowice and Branice, offering participants a typically rural, peaceful landscape of the Polish-Czech borderland 🏃♂️🌾.
Once you cross the stadium finish line and pick up your commemorative medal, Branice and the surrounding area will offer you unique recovery options, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities:
Basilica of the Holy Family and the Hospital Complex – Branice is famous for a hospital complex unique on a European scale, founded by Bishop Józef Nathan. A walk around this area is a visit to a “city within a city.” The monumental Basilica of the Holy Family, with its beautiful interior, is an ideal place for a moment of calm and mental recovery after the race. The architecture of this place is absolutely unique in the region ⛪🏰.
Park by the Hospital – the extensive park grounds around the medical facilities in Branice are a green oasis. The wide avenues are perfect for a very gentle “walk-off” after the run, and the old trees provide soothing shade on warmer days 🌳.
The Czech Side (Úvalno and the Hans Kudlich observation tower) – Branice lies right on the border. It takes only a few minutes to find yourself at our southern neighbors’. In the village of Úvalno there is a distinctive observation tower. Although it’s another effort, the view of Praděd and the Jeseníky Mountains from the top is the best reward for any athlete 🏔️🇨🇿.
Local Cuisine and “Kujawski” Flavors – after the run it’s worth looking for local flavors in Branice or nearby Głubczyce. This region is known for hearty food – after burning calories on the course, a solid serving of Silesian dumplings or regional cured meats from local suppliers will get you back on your feet faster than any isotonic drink 🍖🥟.
Branicki Run is an event with soul, where every participant is treated like a guest of honor, and the route through fields and smaller villages lets you feel the true vibe of the Opole countryside. Are your legs ready for a fast 5K or a half marathon in the shadow of the Branice basilica? 🏁
