Set your course for the fascinating Costa da Morte (Coast of Death), at the very end of Galicia, in the north-west of Spain 🇪🇸. The feast of delights invites you to devour a challenge that has become legendary thanks to the Tour of Spain (the Vuelta): the world-famous Gran Fondo Ézaro. Your body will have to brace itself for the final showdown, the ultimate judge of the event: the fearsome "Mirador de Ézaro", a devilish wall barely 2 kilometres long, but with nightmarish ramps reaching 30% gradient. You'll have to wrestle the machine with sheer arm strength if you hope not to put a foot down! 📈

The strip of tarmac hurls you into scenery of fantastic beauty, between sheer cliffs battered by the waves of the Atlantic and the mysterious Celtic hinterland. Your effort will have you winding along majestic rias, crossing charming little fishing villages and riding roads where nature reigns supreme. The immersion turns brutal in the final hectometres, when you hit the foot of the Ézaro waterfall (one of the few in Europe that plunges directly into the sea) to rise toward the mirador. You'll get the thrilling (and painful) feeling of defying the laws of physics, carried by the momentum of a peloton fighting for survival ⛰️.

Here, spectators pack in frantically on the inhuman slopes of the Ézaro wall, urging you on just centimetres from your front wheel with a fervour that will make you forget your burning thighs. An atmosphere of pure release and absolute glory awaits you at the top, where the panoramic view over the ocean instantly wipes away all the suffering 🏅.

Keep one last hint of appetite to do justice to monumental Galician gastronomy (arguably the best in Spain when it comes to seafood) once you've crossed the finish line. Carry your exhausted body to the nearest harbour to devour a hearty portion of pulpo a la gallega or a plate of percebes, all washed down with a good glass of local white wine, the must-have Albariño.
