The event in a few words

The Kalandzha Marathon is your best excuse to go get “lost” (in the best way) in the heart of Strandzha, in Bulgaria, where the forest flirts with the sea air and where every trail has a story to whisper to you 🌲.

Here, you come to savor the contrasts: cool undergrowth, bright clearings, stretches that smell of resin… and that little “seaside not far away” vibe that adds a pinch of salt to the adventure 🌊.

You pick your format depending on how you feel that day: 13 km to enjoy yourself without burning out, 21 km (yes, there are two—so you can find your 21), and 42–43 km if you want to tell yourself a real epic tale, Strandzha-style, where you finish with proud legs and a big smile 🧭.

My local tip: set off with a curious mind, keep a bit of fuel to lift your head, and let the forest guide you—in Strandzha, you don’t “run,” you travel between the trees (and sometimes you’ll think “Kalandzha, what a rush” without quite knowing why) 😅.

After the finish, stick around: take a detour to Bolyarovo for the local atmosphere, head to Yambol for a relaxed city stroll, and if you want to extend the great outdoors, explore the landscapes of the nearby Strandzha Nature Park 🏛️.

As a duo or with family, it’s perfect for a gentler forest walk the next day, a picnic in a clearing, or simply a drink on a terrace in Yambol to relive the race, turn by turn, like the real ones 🍷.
