If you think that Krakow is just flat Vistula Boulevards, the Grand Opening of the Krakow Grand Prix in Mountain Running will quickly prove you wrong ⛰️. This iconic series takes place in the Wolski Forest, with the start and finish traditionally located near the Krakow Zoo. You have several distances to choose from: the fast “Friendly Three” (approx. 3 km), the classic “Ambitious Eleven”, and the grueling “Hard Twenty Three” (23 km), which can wear out even seasoned mountain runners 🏃.
After battling the elevation changes and mud on the trails, Wolski Forest and its surroundings offer a royal recovery:
Forest breath: Stay a while under the Mound of Independence named after Józef Piłsudski – it's the highest point in the city, from where, in good weather, you can see the Tatra Mountains you dreamed of during the uphill runs 🏔️.
Encounter with nature: Right next to the running village is Krakow's Zoo. A walk among exotic animals is a great way to “walk off” the soreness in your legs 🐘.
Cultural rest: Visit the nearby Camaldolese Monastery on Bielany – the white towers rising over the Vistula are one of the most photogenic spots in Krakow 🏰.
For a well-deserved meal after the mountain effort, drop by the Baba Jaga restaurant or U Zosi café, where in a forest atmosphere, you can recharge your energies. If you prefer to go lower, Portobello Restaurant on Salwator will treat you to a hearty serving of pasta, which after so many climbs, you simply deserve 🍝.
This is a run that proves you don't have to leave Krakow to experience a mountain adventure! 🏆
