Head to Zaragoza for a marathon all about sport 🏃, sunshine ☀️ and heritage! 🇪🇸 And here’s a little fun fact to shine at the terrace 🍻: the city used to be called Caesaraugusta, a name given by the Romans in honor of Emperor Augustus. Nothing less! 🏛️
You’ll set off to discover the capital of Aragon, with two distances on the program: a 42.195 km marathon and a 10 km. Whether you came to take on the long distance 💪 or simply to enjoy a more accessible race, you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for 🤩. And if 42.195 km feels a bit ambitious, the 10 km is there to let you discover Zaragoza without having to negotiate with your legs for three days! 😂
On the marathon, you’ll set off from the legendary Plaza del Pilar to run through the city, right in the heart of its streets and squares. Roman walls, Central Market 🥘, Plaza de España 🇪🇸, Paseo de la Independencia 🌴… the course will take you past several of Zaragoza’s landmark spots. You’ll also cross several iconic bridges 🌉, including the Pont de Pierre and the Pont du Troisième Millénaire, with the Ebro as your traveling companion 🌊. Plenty of beautiful panoramas between two kilometers! In particular, you’ll pass the Puente de Piedra, recognizable by its four bronze lions 🦁, the city’s symbol for centuries: so keep your eyes open—they’ll be there to cheer you on! 😉 And don’t worry, you don’t need to be an Olympic champion to take on the adventure: with a 5-hour time limit ⏰ on the marathon, everyone can come chase their own goal 🎯. If you prefer a more accessible distance, the 10 km will also let you discover the city center on a central, flat and fast course, before you too head back to Plaza del Pilar to cross the finish line 🏁.
Behind this event are the Corre en Zaragoza Athletics Club and LASTLAP SLU, who organize this big celebration of running 🏃 in the heart of the city. With a marathon certified by the RFEA and an organization designed with runners in mind, everything is in place for you to chase your PR ⏱️ or simply enjoy the experience 😍. And in Zaragoza, the party doesn’t necessarily stop at the finish line 🎉: after the effort comes tapeo, that Spanish tradition of hopping from bar to bar to share a few tapas… an excellent way to recover, obviously! 😋
Once the medal 🏅 is around your neck, stay near the start area and keep the trip going: stop by the Basilica del Pilar for a real feast for the eyes—it’s impossible to miss: with its large colorful domes and towers dominating the city, it’s a bit to Zaragoza what the Eiffel Tower is to Paris 👀 . Then cross to the Puente de Piedra for the 📸 photo that says “I was there,” stroll around Plaza del Pilar for the atmosphere 🎉, then find some peace and quiet in Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta 🌳 for a family 👨👩👧👦 walk or a couple’s stroll 🍷
So, ready to run the Spanish way? ¡Vamos! 🇪🇸
The marathon starts and finishes on Plaza del Pilar. With a maximum of 4,000 runners, the race brings together a nice pack ready to pass through Zaragoza’s main landmarks: the Zona Expo, the Roman walls, the Central Market, then the city center with Plaza de España, Paseo de la Independencia, Plaza de Aragón, as well as Don Jaime and Coso 🏘️ streets. For 2027, several iconic spots are making their debut on the route, including the Third Millennium Bridge, the Stone Bridge, the Bullring and the Paseo de la Constitución 🌉. The main change concerns the most demanding part of the course: the climb from Tenor Fleta to the Canal Imperial, previously located at km 32, is now placed at km 17, when the legs are still fresh ⛰️. The section along the Canal Imperial bike path and under the Almozara bridge has also been removed.
The 10 km offers a completely revamped course, with a maximum of 8,000 participants, designed to be fast, central, and with fewer turns. The start is on the Paseo Echegaray y Caballero, where the first 3.5 kilometers run along the Ebro with no major changes in direction. The route then continues with an out-and-back over the Pont de Fer, then the Pont de Pierre, before crossing the Pont de Santiago. The final 4 kilometers dive into the heart of Zaragoza, passing the Roman Walls, the Central Market, calle del Conde de Aranda, then the Paseo de la Independencia, Plaza de Aragón, and Plaza de España. Finally, the last meters follow the bustling calle Don Jaime I before finishing in Plaza del Pilar.
