The event in a few words

A famous singer from the Michigan once said "When I'm hungry, I eat. When I'm thirsty, I drink. When I feel like saying something, I say it" and we would humbly add "When I want to run, I run" 🗣️, just to make the quote complete 😌.

But we're not here to talk about music 🎸, so let's get back on track 🐏. Have you decided to take on the Madonna? That's an excellent idea, but we hope you know what you're getting into 😝. We invite you to Beaufort-Orbagna, in the department of Jura, in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, for a day you won't soon forget 🧠. When summer starts to show its nose and holidays loom on the horizon 👙, lace up your shoes and hit the Jura trails. The event organized by the local firefighters' association offers a total of 4 events 🤩. Whether you're a seasoned trail runner or a Sunday walker (literally 🤣), you'll surely find the right sports shoe for your foot 👟.

Distances range from 5 km to 17 km, to remain accessible to the largest number ✅. The main event, the 17 km, presents a big challenge with its elevation of 470 mD+ 👑. And yes, in case you were wondering, the Jura isn't all flat 🗻. Like the very local Morbier cheese 🧀, it is made up of little imperfections that add to its charm 😎. Between valleys and forest trails, you'll also brush past the very iconic Lanézia memorial, a village icon and a World War II reference 🪖. As for the 10 km, there's no PR either. Its 335 mD+ aren't just for decoration 🥵. A true trail awaits you here, not just a simple road race on tarmac 🛣️. You'll need strong legs 🦵. Finally, the 5 km route can be completed by running or walking. It's a great way to test the course in the first year, spot the technical sections, and aim for the podium the next year, while running 👀. But that's just our two cents...

Once the race is over, don't let the opportunity pass, enjoy the scenery! 🖼️ The region is perfect for strolling and discovering hidden natural gems, with family or as a couple 💕. You're just a few kilometers from Lons-le-Saunier, the ideal thermal town to relax after the race. And if you like the town, feel free to come back in April next year: the famous Reculées Trail takes place there every year and gathers more than 1,600 runners 🤯. Once the urban tour is done, spend your remaining energy hiking along the banks of the Ain 🥾. Both physically demanding due to the distances 🏋️‍♀️ and relaxing because of the idyllic setting ☺️, you'll find all the elements necessary to end your weekend beautifully. And for the more curious 🕵️‍♂️, unique tours in the Jura wine-growing villages can also be imagined 👀.

4 reasons to join this race

Its perfect elevation 🏔️
Neither too high nor too low, the courses are perfectly accessible and balanced in terms of elevation. There's enough climb for you to have a good moan on the ascents, but not enough to make you quit 😝. You're trapped! 🪤
A 5 km trail 📏
When you look among all the trails, famous, unknown, or brand new, few offer routes under 7 km 🤨. With The Trail of the Madonna, that's accomplished. You can truly test your skills, without fear of not completing the race, nor feeling like you've been running for days on end ⏳
A recent organization 🆕
With its first edition in 2026, the event can only grow and improve ⬆️. More courses, new concepts, or extended distances, it's up to you to perform in the early editions to shape the future ones 🧱. And remember, all feedback is welcome 👀.
The true values of trail running 🍃
The organization emphasizes the respect for the natural areas crossed. By participating, you support this environmental protection project. Running clean and litter-free is also part of the trail spirit 💚.

The organizer's word:

"The Trail of the Madonna was born out of the desire to share our passion for sport, nature, and community spirit. Organized by the Beaufort-Orbagna Firefighters' Association, this event aims to be accessible to everyone, from walkers to seasoned trail runners, with an emphasis on respect and solidarity. Through the various courses offered, we want to showcase the trails around the Madonna, a strong symbol of our area, as well as places steeped in history, particularly those related to the battle of July 30, 1944."
