In Vík í Mýrdal, you’re not just coming to “run a race”: you’re coming to take on southern Iceland, raw, beautiful, and a little untamed 🌋.
The Mýrdalshlaup Trail Run is my favorite spot to show you the area in full adventure mode: the salty Atlantic air, the terrain that looms over you, and that light that changes all the time 🌊.
You choose your format depending on your mood of the day: 3 km to treat yourself and keep some breath to explore, 9.5 km to feast your eyes without rushing, or 21.9 km to truly go after Iceland “big-screen edition” 🏔️.
Here, the scenery steals the show: black sea, mountains as a backdrop, and a village vibe where everyone knows each other (even if it’s your first time here). And come on, admit it: “Mýrdalshlaup” is pronounced almost like a spell… and it works—you leave hooked ✨.
After the effort, I’ll keep you in the perfect perimeter around the start: head to Reynisfjara to see the black-sand beach, push on to the Reynisdrangar sea stacks, climb up to the Dyrhólaey viewpoint for a panoramic punch, and take a detour to the little Vík i Myrdal Church that overlooks the village 🧭.
If you’re coming as a couple or with family, it’s a no-brainer: an easy stroll along the coast, a photo stop at every turn (yes, it’s allowed), and a hot chocolate in Vík while you replay your outing, saying “ok, I may have underestimated Iceland.”
A next-gen platform helping sports enthusiasts of all levels discover territories and heritage through races tailored to them.
