The event in a few words

Set your sights on El Dorado County in the heart of Northern California, for a legendary stop on the American race calendar 🇺🇸.

The terrain is made up almost exclusively of winding singletrack dirt paths cutting through dense oak and pine forests. Your shoes will get a taste of the local mud and cross several creeks before running into the fearsome climb of Goat Hill, a brutal wall that will force you to put your hands on your knees 🧗‍♂️. The historical footprint hits hard as you tackle a large portion of the trails in the Auburn State Recreation Area, ancestral cradle of the famous Gold Rush and an iconic passage of the legendary Western States ⛏️.

Forget gloomy aid stations—tradition here demands biting into the iconic cupcakes topped with a little sugar frog once you cross the line 🧁. The passionate cheers of the volunteers echo beneath centuries-old trees to spur you on through the steepest sections 📣. A wildly authentic atmosphere takes over the woods and makes your ultrarunner eyes shine ✨.

Save a bit of energy to take in the region’s incredible gems, less than an hour’s drive from Cool 🚗. Transport your family back to pioneer days by exploring the gigantic Old Sacramento Railroad Museum 🚂. Also point your better half toward a rejuvenating paddle outing on the calm waters of Folsom Lake to loosen up your muscle fibers as a couple 💧. Lock in your entry in a flash and come carve your name into California mud! 🔥
