Cyclosportives in the Canton of Bern

Calendar of cyclosportives in the canton of Bern

Bern, mountain passes galore

Between the rolling Emmental and the passes of the Oberland, the canton of Bern attracts cyclists throughout the good season, with the neighboring events in French-speaking Switzerland to test your legs in a cyclosportive.

The roads of Bern are a dream for every cyclist: lakes, valleys, legendary mountain passes and postcard-perfect villages. For a cyclosportive in the canton of Bern, the canton ticks every box, from the rolling rides of the Emmental to high-mountain crossings 🚴. On two wheels, the capital becomes an obvious starting point.

The Grimsel, the Susten and the Grosse Scheidegg are among the most famous climbs in the Swiss Alps. The hairpins follow one after another, the cows watch the peloton go by, and the glaciers shimmer in the distance 🌄. The season runs from May to September, when the passes open and the asphalt dries. On the flatter terrain, the Emmental offers short but numerous bumps, excellent ground for building leg strength before tackling the big mountains. Experienced cyclists also know the roads around Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, with spectacular views of cliffs and glaciers, ideal for long rides without too much traffic.

For now, the major cyclosportives take place rather in neighboring French-speaking Switzerland. The cyclosportive calendar kicks off in May with the Cyclotour du Léman, set against the backdrop of Lake Geneva and the city of Lausanne. In August, Le Tour des Stations departs from Verbier for a ride between mountain resorts 🏔️. A detour through the cyclosportives in Valais rounds out your preparation with top-level climbs.

The canton gave birth to Fabian Cancellara, nicknamed Spartacus for his power and a two-time Olympic time trial champion. Following his wheel takes either ambition or recklessness 😄. After the effort, the Emmental offers its cheeses with holes to get you back on your feet 🧀. From your first pass to the goal of an entire season, everyone chooses their race according to their level, their training and their love of climbing. The cyclosportives in Switzerland already offer great options for preparing your next challenge.
