Running races in the canton of Fribourg

Between Lake Murten and the lanes of the capital, running races in the canton of Fribourg revolve around one classic: Murten-Fribourg 🏃. The course links the medieval town of Murten to the city of Fribourg, on a point-to-point route of just over 17 km that recalls the Battle of Murten in 1476. Each autumn the race attracts a large crowd, from seasoned time-chasers to beginners motivated by the festive atmosphere all along the course.

The route alternates between country roads, city stretches and climbs that remind you Fribourg is built above the Sarine 🏰. For a more relaxed outing, the Marchethon de Fribourg blends city and forest, with a family atmosphere where walking is also a way to take part 🌳. In between, you choose your own pace: road performance or active stroll, the canton gives you the freedom to run as you see fit.

For other formats, don't hesitate to cross the cantonal border: the Lausanne Marathon and the 10 km de Payerne on the Vaud side, or the Grand Prix of Bern on the Bernese side to test your speed 🏅. Alternate long runs at an easy pace with short interval sessions to arrive sharp at each of these events. They are all about an hour's drive from the Fribourg capital, which makes organizing a race day easier.

The Fribourg running race calendar fills up mostly in early autumn 🍂. To round out your season, check out the 10 km races in the canton of Fribourg, the running races in Vaud and the running races in Switzerland, before choosing the format that suits you.
