Living the castle life, sneakers on feet

Welcome to the Loir-et-Cher, the only department that has its own popular song and should be the national anthem for every self-respecting trail runner! If Michel Delpech said "It seems it bothers you to walk in the mud," for you, it's the exact opposite: you're going to love it 🎶.

No snowy peaks here, but don't claim victory too soon because the positive elevation gain 📈 is compensated by the famous Sologne sand that "sucks" your calves with every stride, a bit like running with cinder blocks on your feet but in a dream setting 🥵. This is the essence of nature running where you'll have to zigzag between the heather, avoid treacherous roots, and maybe even sprint with a stag during rutting season (spoiler: he wins in the end) 🦌. It's wild, it's flat, but it's exhausting: the perfect combo to work on your steel mind without ending up in hypoxia.

As for anecdotes, you'll be well-served because running towards Cheverny is literally running to Moulinsart since Hergé was inspired by the castle, omitting the wings, to create the home of Captain Haddock ⚓️. So if you hear "Blistering barnacles" at the refreshment station, it's normal! Another fun fact, the Tarte Tatin was born here in Lamotte-Beuvron due to a culinary mishap by the Tatin sisters, which resembles your race strategy: sometimes it starts poorly, everything overturns, but in the end, the result is delicious 🥧.

If you're looking for iconic events, the department is full of gems like the Cheverny Marathon which lets you tread the castle's paths in a festive atmosphere, or the Sologne Trail for a total immersion in the wild nature amidst wild boars 🐗. For those who love mystical atmospheres, the Night of the 3 Castles offers a nighttime adventure with a headlamp like "Night at the Museum", while the Deer Footrace offers a simple and effective return to basics in the forest. So, ready to live the castle life with muddy sneakers? Choose from the races below, it's time to book a bib and come prove that you too have the elegance of Francis I... even after 30 kilometers on your legs 👇.
