The Asics SaintéLyon is the oldest ultra race in France, a nighttime crossing of the Monts du Lyonnais, from Saint-Étienne to the Halle Tony Garnier in Lyon. Discover everything you need to know about this legendary event and find the results from the latest edition!
The SaintéLyon isn’t just a race—it’s a rite of passage where thousands of headlamps light up the night! 🔦 Every year, at the end of autumn, the organizer ExtraSports meets runners at the Parc des Expositions in Saint-Étienne for a start in the middle of the night. Head for the ridgelines of the Monts du Lyonnais 🏔️, with a route that mixes trails and tarmac, through mud, cold, and sometimes snow. Runners pass through Saint-Christo-en-Jarez, Sainte-Catherine, Soucieu-en-Jarrest, then Chaponost, before dropping down toward Lyon and the finish under the Halle Tony Garnier 🏁. Around the flagship 80 km race, the event also offers relays, shorter formats to discover the atmosphere, races for children, and even a 160 km out-and-back for the more adventurous 💪.
Born in 1952 at the initiative of the CT Lyon, the SaintéLyon was originally a timed hike of around 75 km, completed over two days between Lyon and Saint-Étienne, with a stop at the Sainte-Catherine inn 🥾. The race took off in the late 1970s with the rise of jogging in France, and officially carried the name SaintéLyon from 1991. Since then, it has established itself as the biggest nature event in France 🏆, bringing together around 20,000 participants, with bibs selling out in just a few hours and thousands of runners on the waiting list 👏. The highlight of the show: the final straight is run in the buzz of Lyon, after a night spent running between two major cities 🌃.
The 2026 edition, the 72nd in history, will take place on November 28 📅. To follow the live results and find the winners’ list, it’s right here: Asics SaintéLyon
