Hugo Tormento
Born on March 8, 1993, Hugo Tormento represents New Caledonia in swimrun 🏊 . A former swimmer on the French national team trained in Nouméa, he now boasts three world titles and coaches endurance athletes.
At 18, Hugo sweeps six gold medals at the 2011 Pacific Games, held in Nouméa 🥇. A specialist in the 200 m butterfly, he then joins the French national team. A missed qualification for the World Championships pushes him to leave the pools. The desire returns through running and triathlons, until he discovers swimrun in 2018. In this discipline born in Sweden, his swimmer’s background quickly makes the difference: as early as 2021, he steps onto the world podium.
In 2022, Hugo finds his alter ego in the water as well as on the rocks: the Swede Max Andersson. Their two-man tandem finishes the season unbeaten. Their masterpiece is Ötillö: 70 km from island to island in the Stockholm archipelago, alternating crossings of the Baltic Sea with slippery rocks. The pair devours it in 7h00'59", a record still standing ⏱️, then retains their title in 2023. In April 2026, Max disappears in an avalanche in Norway. Five months later, Hugo claims a third world title with the Australian Adriel Young. He dedicates it to his friend: “we raced as three, not two” 🤝.
On the road, Hugo Tormento finishes the Paris Marathon 2024 in 2h28'38" 🏃. On the trail side, he strings together the “Grand Trail des Templiers” and the “90 km of Mont-Blanc”, a first ultra more punishing than expected. Between bibs, he co-hosts the SAFE PACE podcast.
