Race timing in Orléans

It’s the question we all ask ourselves: how long does each participant take to finish their race? 🤔 That’s exactly what timing is all about: measuring the time from start to finish to establish the rankings. Long done with a handheld stopwatch, it’s now electronic ⏱️. Chips attached to the bib, shoe, or bike are automatically detected on the ground as athletes pass. In practical terms, this system relies on timing mats equipped with RFID antennas, placed on the ground at the start line, finish line, and intermediate checkpoints: each chip emits a unique frequency captured to the nearest thousandth of a second, ensuring impeccably accurate rankings. It’s also thanks to this that we can distinguish official time (calculated from the starting signal) from net time, which only starts when you cross the line—very handy when you’re starting at the back of the pack!

In practical terms, what does that look like?

This stop on the famous GravelMan Series circuit offers no fewer than five distances, from 60 km to 500 km, available both on road bikes and gravel bikes, through the fields, valleys, and forests of the Loiret. The start and finish take place in Fleury-les-Aubrais, at the gates of Orléans, with a route that’s only revealed to you a few days before the event: no recon possible—you’ll have to ride by sight! Between 60 and 70% of trails and forest paths await you, for an adventure as demanding in self-sufficiency as it is rich in history, in the footsteps of Joan of Arc, whom the city has made its pride. Next, head to the city center for the Sine Qua Non Run Orléans, a race that starts at the foot of Sainte-Croix Cathedral and winds along the banks of the Loire. Between the cobblestones of the historic center and a straight line along the river, this urban format appeals both to regulars and to those discovering running.
