Camille Bruyas
Born on August 2, 1992 in Saint-Denis-sur-Coise, a village in the Loire nestled in the Monts du Lyonnais, Camille Bruyas grew up right on the route of the Asics SaintéLyon. Her running breakthrough comes in 2016 on Réunion. Signed up for "La Mascareignes" to discover the island, she comes back with the win! Ten years later, her résumé is dizzying: UTMB runner-up in 2021 and 2025, Diagonale des Fous runner-up in 2023, Hardrock 100 runner-up in 2024.
In 2016, Camille sets down her bags on the intense island, where trail running is practically the national sport. She chooses to run the 64 km of "La Mascareignes", one of the races of the Grand Raid de La Réunion. She wins it in 9h32'57". The following year, she doubles down on the "Trail de Bourbon": 111 km swallowed up in 18h51'36", a new victory. In 2018, her first "Diagonale des Fous" opens the doors to ultra for her, with a 5th place to show for it. Things don’t take long after that because in 2019, she clinches 3rd place in the "CCC" and wins the Swiss Canyon Trail. Right after that, she wins the Asics SaintéLyon in 6h54'00", on the paths that run alongside her childhood village 🌙. In 2020, she dominates the 70 km of the Ultra Trail Côte d'Azur Mercantour and places 4th overall, just a few minutes off the men’s podium.
The real breakthrough comes in Chamonix in 2021. On her first "UTMB", Camille goes toe-to-toe with the world’s best for 172 km and 10,000 mD+, then crosses the line in 2nd place in 24h09'42". The general public discovers a runner with an Olympic calm, just as comfortable at night as during the day. Around this standout performance, victories pile up on very different terrain. She wins in the Dolomites at the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, a stage of the UTMB World Series, then on the limestone plateaus of the Festival des Templiers. The ridgelines of the Grand Trail de Serre-Ponçon suit her just as well. In 2023, a serious thigh injury forces the physio to switch roles: she finds herself on the treatment table, a patient in turn. Months of rehab later, she shows up at the "Diagonale des Fous" and takes 2nd place, on the island where it had all begun. The following summer, she crosses the Atlantic to take on Colorado’s mountains at the Hardrock 100. Among the women, only Courtney Dauwalter finishes ahead of her. In the overall standings, Camille places 6th 🤠 .
After a break forced by an exhausted body, Camille gets the engine going again in 2025 with a 3rd place at the Grand Raid Ventoux by UTMB. At the end of August, she returns to the "UTMB", « a home race ». Result: 2nd in 23h28'48" over 174 km, beaten by New Zealander Ruth Croft. A second silver medal, four years after the first 🏔️. In 2026, Camille Bruyas announces her pregnancy. Scheduled for the 110 km of the MIUT in Madeira, she switches to the 56 km and its 2,810 mD+: 8th woman, 55th overall in 7h57'45", more than four months pregnant 🤰. Her return date to the trails remains to be written.
