Hey! ๐ It's time to dig out your swimming goggles from the drawer ๐ฅฝ, dust off the bike that's serving as a hanger in your garage ๐ฒ, and lace up your running shoes for something that's going to challenge you in all the right ways, promise! Head to Ville-d'Avray ๐๏ธ, at the gates of Paris, for the very first edition of the FUSE Triathlon, starting in early May ๐ . And yes, you read that right: Ville-d'Avray, this little municipality of 11,500 people where Boris Vian was born in 1920 โ๏ธ, where Isabelle Huppert grew up ๐ฌ, and where painter Corot had his country house ๐ก. A classy place, to say the least ๐. And now, FUSE is coming! ๐ฅ
This isn't just a triathlon like the others ๐ . No beach transitions, no 180 km road stretches, no marathon at the end. Here, we reinvent everything around a unique principle: the Rising Effort ๐. You sequence through swimming ๐, cycling ๐ด, and running ๐, but for each discipline, the intensity escalates in successive tiers until your body waves the white flag ๐ณ๏ธ. In the pool ๐ฆ, the time you have to complete your laps shrinks with each round โฑ๏ธ. On the bike, the resistance of the home trainer climbs tier after tier ๐ช. And finally, the running demands increasingly faster periods ๐จ. Between each discipline, a timed transition is the same for everyone โณ, just enough to catch your breath before facing what's next ๐ .
There is no fixed finish line ๐, you stop when your body says stop ๐. The race lasts between 45 minutes and 2 hours depending on your level. As long as you complete a tier, you continue and score points ๐. Once you miss, you move to the next discipline without shame. Each completed tier adds to your final score. No DNF, no withdrawals: just your limit for the day, your personal benchmark, the number you'll stick on the fridge to motivate yourself this winter โ๏ธ. All in the heart of an urban arena ๐๏ธ, surrounded by a cheering crowd that propels you beyond what you would do alone at home.
Once your body officially concedes, Ville d'Avray offers some delightful surprises ๐. The รtangs de Corot ๐ฆ are worth a visit: the Old Pond dug in the Middle Ages by Celestine monks, and the New Pond developed in 1680 by order of Louis XIV's brother, Philippe d'Orlรฉans, to supply the fountains of Saint-Cloud via a subterranean aqueduct (which still operates today) ๐ง. Classified since 1936, it's exactly the sort of place where you sit for 5 minutes and stay for 2 hours โ๏ธ. And the Chรขteau de Ville d'Avray, built in 1776 by King Louis XVI's first valet, offers an ideal park for a post-exertion stroll ๐ณ.
We're in รle-de-France, and it tastes good ๐! The region is one of the largest producers of Brie cheese aged just a few kilometers from here ๐ง. On the sweet side, you can't miss the Paris-Brest โ๏ธ, a pastry shaped like a bicycle wheel created in 1910 to celebrate the Paris-Brest-Paris cycling race, a dessert shaped like a bike after a cycling challenge, talk about destiny ๐ด. And of course, local bakeries serve up traditional baguettes and butter croissants that make you forget all the morning's hardships ๐ฅ. You've burned calories, now it's time to replenish them. That's the rule ๐.
May the effort be with you! โก

At each tier, you must perform an effort within a set time, which decreases as you progress. For example, in swimming, a tier corresponds to 50m: at first, you have 90 seconds to complete it, then the time decreases progressively at each new tier. The goal is to push your limits until you can no longer complete a tier in the allotted time. The principle is the same in running. On the home trainer bike, the resistance gradually increases until you can no longer pedal.
