Now that’s a (s)Orcières of a challenge! 🧙Ready to climb where even chamois hesitate to set a hoof? 🏔️ For this GF Orcières, we’re taking you to the <a href="kavval://level2AdminAreas/c2d34240-7f58-4322-96be-fb845e08c0df" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Hautes-Alpes</a> department, in the <a href="kavval://level1AdminAreas/d4cb7b23-d4f5-4194-803e-08fdd9903ebc" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur</a> region, for a weekend of pure <a href="kavval://pages/d843e8c3-659d-4857-aa07-838ea52bb1da" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">cycling</a> taking place in <a href="kavval://pages/a4f2997b-b28b-4ecd-8172-979d2952a6a7" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">August</a> 🚴. On the programme for this international cyclosportive, you’ll find 2 major events that will show you the balconies of the <a href="kavval://tags/9aac2254-eb0d-4f02-a70e-ef56d14afd9d" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Écrins National Park</a> 🌱.The highlight is the 134 km route with 3,400m of elevation gain—a serious chunk that has nothing to envy the legendary stages of the Tour de France 🥵. If you’re afraid of ending up completely done before the <a href="kavval://tags/dbe02603-5b14-47ba-99ef-861de39701bc" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">summit</a>, the 78 km format with 2,000m of elevation gain will still be more than enough to get those thighs burning 🚲. The course is a true best-of the local heritage 🤩. You set off from <a href="https://www.orcieres.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Orcières Merlette 1850</a> in a neutralised peloton before getting down to business: the <a href="https://climbfinder.com/fr/montees/collet-d-ancelle-pont-sarrazin" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ancelle climb</a>, then the spectacular stretches toward <a href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorges" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chorges</a> and <a href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Apollinaire_(Côte-d%27Or)" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Saint-Apollinaire</a> 📍. You’ll pedal with a plunging view over <a href="https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lac_de_Serre-Ponçon" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lake Serre-Ponçon</a>, the largest artificial lake in Europe, before taking on the formidable <a href="https://www.alpes4ever.com/france/hautes-alpes/les-plus-de-1500-m/col-de-moissiere/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Col de Moissière</a> 📈. The tarmac is clean, but the gradient is tricky—especially on the demanding roads of <a href="https://www.champsaur-valgaudemar.com/decouvrir/les-stations/chaillol/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chaillol</a> and <a href="https://www.orcieres.com/activites/hiver/ski/serre-eyraud/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Serre Eyraud</a> 🫣. To finish, you’ll have to tame the final climb back up to the resort, a technical ascent of 7 km at an average 7% 🥵. For those less keen on taking on a long cyclosportive route, a 48 km leisure ride with 931m of elevation gain is also on offer ✅. Perfect for enjoying the scenery without the pressure of competition 🏅. As for the event DNA, the organisation doesn’t do things by halves ✋. After you cross the finish line, the party continues at the Orcières exhibitors’ village. We’ll be waiting for you with a friendly post-race <a href="kavval://tags/d816c360-2b86-461f-b854-a807cd9b94ba" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">meal</a> and concerts to unwind 🕺. The competitive spirit is there on the long route, but camaraderie remains the day’s big winner. 🧀For your stay, Orcières is a paradise that goes far beyond cycling 😍. You can try the <a href="https://www.orcieres.com/offres/tyrolienne-roll-air-cable-orcieres-fr-6185579/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">giant zip line</a>, one of the longest in Europe, for a serious adrenaline rush ❤️‍🔥. For families, the <a href="https://www.orcieres.com/sejourner/base-de-loisirs/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Orcières leisure centre</a> offers swimming and fun activities, while an easy <a href="https://www.orcieres.com/activites/ete/itineraires-randonnees/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">hike</a> up to the high-altitude lakes will delight those who crave peace and quiet 🐛.
