Ticino, the South of the Alps at full speed

Between Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano and peaks of over 3,000 m, Ticino brings together trails, half marathons, extreme triathlon and legendary passes, with a calendar running from spring to autumn and plenty of sunshine.

South of the Alps, Ticino feels like an Italian getaway on Swiss soil 🌴. Between Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano and peaks of over 3,000 m, this Italian-speaking canton offers a varied playground, from the quays of Ascona to the trails of the Leventina. For races in Ticino, you can choose between lakesides, wild valleys and charming towns.

The territory unfolds like a fan. In the south, Lugano, Mendrisio and Locarno offer flat, bright and shaded urban routes. In the center, Bellinzona, with its three castles listed by UNESCO, opens the way to the valleys of Morobbia, Verzasca and Maggia. In the north, the Leventina climbs toward the Gotthard and its legendary passes. The climate is among the mildest in Switzerland, with more than 2,000 hours of sunshine a year ☀️, and a season that stretches from spring to autumn.

The Ticino race calendar kicks off in June with the BancaStato Morobbia Trail and the Swissman Xtreme Triathlon in Ascona. Autumn takes over, with the StraLugano in Lugano in September, then the Ascona Locarno Run and Runthrough Ascona-Locarno in October 🏃. To choose your discipline, head to the trails in Ticino or half marathons in Ticino pages.

Ticino gave birth to Mario Botta, a world-renowned architect, and long was home to Hermann Hesse in Montagnola, two figures who found their inspiration here 🎨. After the effort, polenta, risotto and grottos, those rustic inns nestled under chestnut trees, delight runners 🍚. From a 5 km along the lake to the climb up a pass, everyone will find their race according to their level and their craving for sunshine. To broaden your horizons, the calendar of mountain races in Switzerland awaits on the other side of the Gotthard 😄.
