We are not here to round off the edges... 📐 Set course for the 66° South Catalan Pyrenees Gravel Tour! Embark on an adventure between sea 🌊 and mountains ⛰️, in the southwest of France 🇫🇷, near Perpignan, more precisely at... *drum roll 🥁* Les Angles resort! Yes indeed, the qualifications for the UCI Gravel World Series championship, will take place in mid-September in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees. Rest assured, you won't be skiing ⛷️, but rather graveling over 21, 58, 74 or 110 km 🚵♂️. It's up to you to make your choice! 😉
Endurance, technique, and challenging climbs will be on the menu 🥘. But don't worry 😅, a good prep and everything will flow as smoothly as on roller coasters a bike! 🚲 In terms of elevation, you'll climb between 450 m and 1,870 m of positive elevation 📈. You'll traverse the mountain roads of the region, such as the Capcir and the Cerdagne, peaking at 2,400 m, with rocky trails 🪨 and forest paths typical of the southwest! 🌴 Do you think your legs will be indulged? 🦵 Peuchère... Wait until you see the view, because your eyes will be too 👀. You will be able to admire the Formiguères station and its Scots pine forests 🌲, the Lake Matemale and the Lake Calvet 💧. Enough to experience a sport adventure rich in effort and discoveries 🤩. By the way, the starting line 🏁 is accessible by car from the nearest stations such as Latour-de-Carol, or by bus 🚌 that will take you to the right port right track ⛷️. Adishatz! 👋
But that's not all! After taking on this challenge, discover the charms of the region 😍. Nearby, you can visit the Angles Animal Park in Capcir 🦫, or the Mont-Louis fort 🏰 built by Le Prestre de Vauban himself ☝️, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you want to venture a little further in the region, don't forget to admire the Romanesque churches and Catalan chapels ⛪️. There are many in the surroundings! Relax in the baths of Saint-Thomas 💦, the hot springs of the Catalan peaks... Guaranteed relaxation 😌. On the culinary side 🧑🍳, we highly recommend trying the cargolade 🐌, the Pyrenean lamb 🐑, the famous Catalan fougasse 🥧, accompanied by its sheep or goat cheese 🐐, as you please 🧀.
So hop on Marcel, the Pyrenees are waiting for you 🚲.
108 checkpoints, 1,870 mD+, and a terrain that plays with your nerves between 1,600 and 2,000 m altitude 🏔️. From Les Angles, it climbs steeply at km 7 🔥, heading towards the forest, the rocky ground, and singletracks 🪵. In the middle, you get a bit of respite with Capcir, Formiguères, the lac de Matemale… 💧 but it doesn't last. At km 50, it starts again strongly ⛰️, and at km 88, you tackle your last hill. A route for the sturdy 💪, those who ride with both head and determination 😤.
A short but challenging route, starting from Angles straight into the slope 🔥. The first climb takes you through a forest trail up to 1,900 m altitude 🌲, before a nice fast descent towards Lake Matemale 💧. Midway, you push on rolling paths, but beware: it picks up again at km 14 with a second steep climb ⛰️. The return is via a playful single track in the underbrush, technical but smooth 🌳. A compact format, perfect for testing your gear, your pedaling power, and having maximum fun 👌.
