“ Oh Marie, if only you knew… ” this cani-cross is perfect! 🎶
Well, cani-cross, cani-MTB, cani-hiking, cani-scooter… 🏞️ There are no half measures: in Fayl-Billot, every sporting activity you can imagine doing with your dog is possible! 🔥 In November, the village comes alive for you and your best friend (your dog 🐕), to give you a truly special ⭐️ moment. Right in the Grand Est, in Haute-Marne, get ready to woof with joy! 💐
For this day, no “sit pretty ” (Fayl-Billot), it's more like “run, dog, run”! ⚡️ The program offers you a bunch of activities. We start with the one and only: cani-cross! You choose between 5 km, 7 km and 10 km and you run with long strides for a good time ⏱️. Competing with the other doggos, every turn will always be your turn to try everything! Woofff, say it as fast as you can 🤣. Let's refocus and look at the other options. Otherwise, you can hop on your bike, attach your dog's harness, and set off for 7 km of cani-MTB! 🚵 Also on two wheels, but this time standing up, there is a 7 km cani-scooter 🛴 course. Watch your balance, it can quickly go sideways 🤕. And finally, in a more traditional way, cani-hiking, also over 7 km! 🥾 Here, we're sure of a basic-basic format, but one that is especially popular! 💗 And by the way, for this day, why leave the kids aside? We're asking because it's not the usual practice around here 🤓. They will have 3 courses, adapted to their age: 1 km (Benjamins), 1.4 km (Minimes and Cadets) or 1.9 km (Juniors)!
Psst, how about a mini explanation before we talk about your recovery? 🥸 Cani-cross, as its name suggests, is a sport that combines a runner and their dog 🏃♀️. The two are connected by an elastic lead and harnesses attached 🔗, so be careful not to get dragged along the whole race 😂. The inspiration comes from the Americas, when they began doing sled dog racing 🛷, and from the Nordic countries with skijoring. It was around the 70s-80s that in Europe, people started to take an interest in it, notably Gilles Pernoud. In 1988, the Fédération des Sports et Loisirs Canins (Federation of Canine Sports and Leisure) was created in France, and in the 2000s, this sport was recognized as an international sport! Quite a canine, er, canon story 📚.
Once this event is over, don't miss the race village, where you'll find a nice refreshment stand and something to eat 😋. After that, get ready to strut around the French capital of basketry. So no, you won't find jokes on every street corner, but rather high-quality wicker baskets! 🧺 With land ideal for growing wicker, you should take advantage of this weekend to visit the Maison de la Vannerie (Basketry House) 🏛️. Otherwise, a few kilometers away, you can also visit Langres, a historic fortified town 🏰 or the one and only spa town of Champagne-Ardenne, Bourbonne-les-Bains. You'll have plenty to help you unwind after this challenge, that's for sure 🫡. To top it all off, you might as well taste the specialties. We just told you about it, and Langres is a town but also a cheese! 🧀 It can quickly lead to mix-ups, we admit. In any case, to enjoy it, seize the opportunity and have a good Champenoise Fondue! 🫕 This local specialty is a must-try, just like the potée champenoise! 🍲 Well, with that, you'll have plenty to fill your belly and recover well 🧘♀️.
So, ready to sit pretty as a team in Fayl Billot? 🐶
A word from the organizer:
"Cani-cross is an athletic sport that pairs a runner with a dog, connected to each other to make the same physical effort. It originated from an idea developed by a Lyon veterinarian at the end of the 1980s, Gilles Pernoud, and is inspired by skijoring practiced in the Nordic countries. It's a true team sport. Cohesion and enjoyment are the very essence of this activity!"
