The event in a few words

In Bouc-Bel-Air, when summer arrives, you don’t count sheep to fall asleep: you count the Bouc loops 🌕. Nestled between Aix-en-Provence and Marseille, in the heart of the Bouches-du-Rhône, the town slips into its night outfit to welcome the Full Moon Infinity, in partnership with DECATHLON VILLAGE Bouc-Bel-Air 🛍️. The idea can be summed up in one sentence: escape the Provençal heatwave by running while it sleeps 💤. By day, the mercury climbs sharply over the Pays d'Aix; at night, coolness takes back its rights and a generous full moon lights the runners as they link loop after loop 🌙. All we ask is that you bring a headlamp, something warm for dawn, and lots and lots of water: summer nights in Provence can still bite 🥵.

The concept itself comes from far away: that of the Backyard Ultra, imagined across the Atlantic by Gary Cantrell, also known as “Lazarus Lake,” the man behind the mythical Barkley Marathons 😈. The original rule is brutal: a 6.7 km loop to be completed in under one hour, otherwise you’re eliminated immediately ❌. In Bouc-Bel-Air, the formula is softened without losing its soul: you choose your format from the 5 on offer, ranging from 1 to 15 loops, and you keep going as long as the hour allows 😊. As for the schedule, the 1-loop format (6.7 km) kicks things off—uh, opens the ball... Then comes the monster: 15 loops (100.5 km), closely followed by the 6-loop format (40.2 km, almost a marathon 💪) and the 3 loops (20.1 km, also close to the famous half marathon ⚡️). As for the 2-loop format (13.4 km), it dresses up as a festive Sunday-morning version, to extend the fun once the sun is back 🌅.

Night changes everything—and that’s exactly the point of this event! 🌌 After 8pm, the asphalt stops radiating heat, the cicadas finally fall silent, and quiet settles over the city’s heights 🌆. Running under the stars, with the full moon as your only spotlight, turns a simple 6.7 km loop into an almost meditative experience—until your legs remind you you’re not here to admire the sky 🫠. Each return to the village shows a powerful contrast from the start: on one side darkness and focus, on the other music, cheers 📣 (and the smell of coffee already brewing for those who’ll last the whole night ☕). And it’s this shift between nocturnal solitude and collective communion that makes the Backyard concept what it is 🌟. As for the course, you’re up against a typical urban route! You zigzag through the city neighborhoods with runnable sections and, above all, pretty ones. Anyway, it’s not in the middle of the night that you’ll confirm what we’re saying... 🌙

Once the last loop is looped, it’s time for some well-deserved rest—with the air of a winner 😉. On Sunday morning, either you run, or you enjoy yourself, because usually on that day, a Provençal brunch, with pastries and fresh fruit juices, is hard to refuse 🥐. To keep the momentum going, Sunday also pairs perfectly with a stroll around downtown Aix-en-Provence and its famous Cours Mirabeau 🌟. For legs that are still warm, a trip to the local Provençal market lets you stock up on sun-drenched fruit, olive oil, and calissons to extend the sweet taste of victory 🏆. And if fatigue starts to weigh you down, nothing beats a nap in the shade of an olive tree, while your body quietly digests the night’s kilometers. 😴 A perfect way to gently close this nocturnal interlude before doing it all again the following year 🎟️.

So, ready to watch the moon rise once, twice, or fifteen times in a row? The Full Moon Infinity asks for just one thing: your bib, your sneakers, and the desire to run in circles—just to get some fresh air! 😮‍💨

4 reasons to join this race

Five formats, five starts, one single night 🎯
From the single 6.7 km loop to the 100.5 km Infinity format, everyone can find their distance and start time to match their evening vibe: a relaxed discovery run, a costumed half or marathon, or an all-nighter ultra-style. These formats have been well thought out so you can push yourself without burning your wings from the very first lap 😊.
Nighttime coolness instead of the summer furnace 🌙
Running in Provence in the middle of summer is often a thermal challenge. Here, the night start avoids the heatwave and offers welcome coolness, under a full moon that turns each loop into an almost unreal interlude ✨.
A cult format straight from the Backyard Ultra 🏃
Inspired by the Barkley Marathons and the concept imagined by Gary Cantrell, Full Moon Infinity takes on the Backyard Ultra DNA: one loop, one hour, and you do it again 🔁. This formidable mechanism turns each lap into a small victory and lets you take on a major challenge, whatever the format ⚡️.
A village vibe—festive and friendly with DECATHLON VILLAGE 🎉
Between loops, the race village stays lively: refreshments, encouragement, and a warm atmosphere that reminds you that ultra is also—above all—lived as a community 🤝. You run alone on your legs, sure, but at the finish you’ll be demotivated like never before! And for a change from the usual races, here you’ll have several finishes! 😆
