Wooden cross, Iron Cross, if I lose, I go to hell 😈
The GFNY Vaujany Croix de Fer takes you to challenge the summits in Isère, in the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, for an adventure that will seriously rock your cycling certainties 🚴. The GFNY Alpes Vaujany takes place in June, right when the mountain wears its finest green coat 🏔️. With 2 events scheduled over a weekend, the event boasts dizzying figures: an XXL 118 km course with 4,000 mD+ 📈 and a shorter but formidable 43 km format with 1,800 mD+ 🤪. You see, you're not here for mere sightseeing ❌.
The terrain is a real workout for the legs, where Alpine asphalt gives nothing without a fierce battle ⚔️. The long course starts with a descent from the perched village of Vaujany, just to raise the tension before the first major climb: the Col de la Croix de Fer ⬆. It's a continuous 25 km ascent 🥵. You'll first pass through a dense forest before emerging to the splendor of Lac de Grand'Maison 💧. The summit, at 2,067 m, offers a breathtaking view (even if you're already out of breath 😂). After a quick descent towards Saint Jean de Maurienne, a valley stretch allows a brief respite before tackling the Col du Glandon: 21.3 km at 6.9% average 💥. Beware, the slope is taxing, especially with rhythm changes dictated by the switchbacks 😵💫. The villages you pass through, like Rivier d’Allemont, buzz with the runners' passage and the refreshments bring back your smile when the slopes show outrageous percentages 😫. Once the final challenge is met, the final ascent to Vaujany with its steady 8.6% switchbacks, the festivities are in full swing 🥳. An exceptional route demands exceptional service ☝️. That's the GFNY: an XXL organization designed to give you a professional experience without losing conviviality 👯♀️. Three packages are available to you 3️⃣. You can join just for race day or go premium with a VIP number: guided outings the day before and a welcome aperitif Place de la Fare 🥂. You'll leave with steel calves and, who knows, new road buddies for life 🫂.
After collecting your medal, why not vary the fun? 🤪 The area is packed with gems to discover with family 🧑🧑🧒. We suggest an unusual visit to the Musée de la Faune or a trip to the Sports and Leisure Center to try ice skating and bowling 🎳. The more contemplative will enjoy excursions to local waterfalls or a stroll through the picturesque alleys of the resort 😍. It's an opportunity to turn this sporting challenge into a memorable stay in the great outdoors, far from the urban hustle🌲.
M(Isère) of m(Isère), now you have to go 😰.
