The event in a few words

Get ready for a start that carries an immense emotional and historical charge, along with an incredible Silesian identity. The Independence Run in Honor of the Nine from "Wujek" in Katowice is a unique event that combines the joyful celebration of November 11 with a profound tribute to nine miners who died during the pacification of the "Wujek" mine in December 1981. The route of this ten-kilometer run has a unique character. The start and finish in the vicinity of the Wujek Mine itself and the monumental Cross-Monument make every step along the course a reminder of the price Silesia paid for a free Poland.

The Katowice district of Brynów and the very heart of Silesia offer plenty of industrial and green nooks for some well-deserved rest after the run:

The Cross-Monument at the "Wujek" Mine: a place you can’t pass by indifferently. After the run, it’s worth coming here for a moment of reflection and lighting a candle beneath the 33-meter cross commemorating the heroes of those days 🕯️.

The Silesian Center for Freedom and Solidarity: Located right next to the mine, this museum is an absolute "must-visit". A modern, moving exhibition helps you understand the history of the strike and the pacification. Visiting here with a medal around your neck takes on a special meaning 🏛️.

Kościuszko Park: located just a stone’s throw from the mine, the largest park within Katowice. It’s the perfect place to "cool down" after the run. You’ll find beautiful avenues, the parachute tower, and the charming wooden Church of St. Michael the Archangel 🌳.

Katowice Market Square and the Spodek: Just a few minutes’ drive from the route separates you from the modern center of Katowice. You can sit under artificial palm trees by the artificial Rawa on the Market Square or take a photo with the legendary Spodek 🛸.

Silesian Żur and warm Krupniok: A miners’ run calls for a miners’ recovery meal! Forget salads for a moment—after a start like this, your muscles will recover best with a bowl of thick, tangy Silesian żur with sausage and egg, or traditional krupniok with onions 🍲.

The Run in Honor of the Nine from "Wujek" is an event with incredible character. It shows that the memory of the past can be nurtured in a modern, active way, and you can feel the Silesian spirit and solidarity here on every meter of the route … ✨ Run with honor in the heart of Silesia! 🏁❤️🤍
