The event in a few words

Kraków Independence Run is one of the biggest and most solemn running events in Małopolska. Every year on November 11, thousands of runners dressed in white and red shirts create an incredible, living national flag that floods the streets of Poland’s former capital.

The main distance here is the classic, fast 10-kilometre course, although the event is often accompanied by shorter runs (such as the Independence Mile and Nordic Walking marches, depending on the edition). The start and finish near Kraków’s Błonia provide a huge dose of cheering from the gathered residents, and singing the anthem before the start guarantees goosebumps on every competitor’s arms!

Kraków in its November, holiday edition offers plenty of ways to spend the rest of this special day perfectly:

The Royal Castle on Wawel: Running in its shadow is an honour, but a walk around the courtyard and a moment of reflection in the crypts are the perfect complement to the patriotic character of the day. The view of the Vistula River bends from the castle walls always makes an impression 🏰.

November Main Market Square: After the race, it’s worth heading towards the Cloth Hall. The city buzzes with ceremonial celebrations on this day—you can hear patriotic songs, and there’s an elevated yet very joyful atmosphere all around 🔔.

St. Martin’s Croissants and Hot Chocolate: Although the croissants are mainly associated with Poznań, Kraków’s pastry shops on November 11 are also bursting at the seams with these sweet treats. A solid portion of white poppy seed and icing is the best legal recovery boost! 🥐☕

Historic Kazimierz: When the sporting emotions settle, move into the labyrinth of streets of Kraków’s Kazimierz. The local pubs and atmospheric cellars are perfect places for an evening meet-up with friends and stories about how the start went 🍻.

Kraków Independence Run is more than a battle against the clock over 10 km. It’s a sense of community, pride, and joyful running-style celebration in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities … ✨

Run in the heart of history! 🏁❤️🤍
