Marbella Epic Trail
We all know true EPICureans seek pleasure above all… and you'll find it at the Marbella Epic Trail! 😋 With 65 km and 5,000 meters of elevation gain, it promises an explosion of happiness in the heart of Andalusia in the province of Málaga. Let's agree, when the grey of February settles in too comfortably at home 🧣, a sunny getaway to Spain becomes necessary 🌞. Ready for an epic ultra-trail in the great outdoors? Let's get you started ➡️.
Yes, you read that right 😳. It's 65 km and 5,000 meters of elevation gain awaiting you in an extraordinary adventure 🥵. The start line is set at the Mediterranean coast, in Marbella (ciao, Bella ciao, Bella ciao ciao ciaooo 🎶), a city famous for its flashy yachts and socialite parties ✨. But let's be clear: if you're coming for the Epic Trail, it's not for the bling or to strut on a boat 🚤. It's to break away… towards the mountains ⛰️. Within the first few kilometers, you leave the coast and begin your ascent to the Sierra Blanca, this mountain range called "white" for its limestone reliefs where vegetation is sparse 😯. Quickly, the first panoramas give you a hint of what's to come 💨. At Picacho de Castillejos, you look up and understand why so many runners dream of this challenge: a breathtaking view of the sea, the city below, and the endless horizon. The route then takes you to iconic spots like the Picacho de Castillejos, the El Cerezal Botanical Park, the Mirador del Corzo, the Mirador del Macho Montés, and the Cruz de Juanar 🧐. The kilometers fly by as you head to the Pico del Tajo Negro and the Cerro del Lastonar, the highest point of the Sierra Blanca ⬆️. You'll also reach the legendary summit of La Concha, a true emblem of Marbella 🤓. The journey concludes at Fuerte de Nagüeles, in the heart of the natural space of Pinar de Nagüeles 🌳. There, a grand gourmet barbecue awaits you 😋 pretty classy, right? You have 19 hours to complete this demanding course, but be cautious ⚠️. This challenging race is reserved for 200 seasoned runners; this is no time for jokes! 👊
Once your medal is around your neck and the evening's over, it's time for some touring 🔎. Why not extend the experience with a trip to Ronda, this legendary Andalusian city (as beautiful as it is proud 💃), known for its spectacular bridges and breathtaking views? 😵💫 Or wander through the white alleys of Setenil de las Bodegas, an impressive cave-dwelling village just an hour’s drive from the Spanish Riviera 📸. Of course, you can’t leave without exploring the streets of Marbella! As the champion you are, you didn’t even have time to take in the city at the start because you were so swift ⚡️. Once settled in a local restaurant, you can treat yourself to a final culinary journey 🤩. On the menu: tapas, grilled sardine skewers, Iberian ham… everything that excites those who love elevation gain 🤪.
So, are you ready to make your calves salsa? 🤯
Ready to launch into 65 km and 5,000 mD+? 🥵 Let's go! 💪
You start from the seashore, in the heart of Marbella📍. The first four kilometers invite you to cross the city before gradually delving into the trails of the Sierra Blanca ⛰️. As you gain altitude, the first panoramas unfold 😍. The first major landmark is at kilometer 11: the Puerto las Allanas ⬆️. At km 13.5, you'll find your first refreshment at the Juanar refuge 😋. A few kilometers further, at kilometer 20, the Casa de Purla welcomes you for a second refresh. The route becomes tougher, and soon the Picacho de Castillejos, a steep and mineral summit, appears 😵💫. Then the trail descends towards the El Cerezal botanical park 🌳 before climbing up to the Mirador del Corzo at km 34 🔎. Three kilometers further, at the Cruz de Juanar, the magic truly happens: before you, the Mediterranean and the city of Marbella. Nearby, the Mirador del Macho Montés adds another postcard to the collection (and your gallery 📸). You switch to the pico del Tajo Negro, before climbing the Cerro del Lastonar, the highest point of the Sierra Blanca 🏆. Then comes the much-anticipated moment: the mythical summit of La Concha, at kilometer 41.
