Ready for another night full of lights, music, and brilliant fun, but in a slightly more intimate and exceptionally atmospheric version? Mizuno Neon Run in Olomouc is the younger sibling of the Prague edition, turning one of the Czech Republic’s most beautiful historic cities into a neon, life-pulsing show. The 5 km route isn’t about smashing PBs, but about soaking up the vibe. Runners, kitted out with reflective gadgets and painted with fluorescent paints, hit the course after dark. The paths usually run through the picturesque areas of Olomouc’s famous parks (e.g. Smetanovy sady) and around the exhibition grounds of Výstaviště Flora.
Olomouc is sometimes called “little Prague” because of its stunning architecture, but it has a huge advantage—there aren’t such crowds of tourists here. After the neon madness, it’s worth dedicating the weekend to relaxing and discovering the treasures of this Moravian city:
Holy Trinity Column and the Upper Square (Horní náměstí): This is the absolute heart of the city. The impressive Baroque column is listed by UNESCO and makes a breathtaking impression. On the same square you’ll see the monumental town hall with its unique astronomical clock (Orloj), which was rebuilt after the war in the spirit of socialist realism—instead of saints, the figures depict workers and farmers 🏛️.
Historic fountains and the Arion monster: Olomouc is famous for its beautiful Baroque fountains inspired by Roman mythology (Neptune, Jupiter, Mercury). The newest one—the Arion Fountain—features a giant turtle and is a favorite meeting spot and the perfect backdrop for a souvenir photo with your medal 🐢.
St. Wenceslas Cathedral and the former castle: The soaring neo-Gothic cathedral towers dominate the city skyline. Right next door are the Archbishop’s Palace and a museum that hold the rich history of the Czech lands and Moravia 👑.
Olomouc curd cheese – a culinary legend for recovery: After burning calories, you have to try the local hit. Olomoucké tvarůžky are ripened cheeses with a distinctive, very intense smell and a unique taste. In local restaurants they’re served warm (e.g. fried in breadcrumbs) or as an addition to Czech garlic soup (česnečka). A mug of cold, regional beer from one of the local craft breweries pairs perfectly with it 🧀🍻.
Jump into neon colors, let the music carry you through Olomouc’s parks, and discover the magic of night-time Moravia during Mizuno Neon Run!
