The event in a few words

Do you fancy a running escape from civilization to a place where the scent of pines blends with the sea breeze? Mljet Trail is a unique event for cross-country running enthusiasts, held on the island of Mljet – regarded as the most forested and unspoiled island in all of Croatia. The routes of this extraordinary race run largely through the Mljet National Park, offering runners technical, rocky paths, spectacular climbs, and breathtaking panoramas of hidden coves and the open sea. The organizers take care of runners at every level, usually preparing several varied distances: from shorter routes (around 10 km) ideal for a dynamic start, to demanding sections for advanced trail runners. You can easily reach the island by ferry or catamaran from Dubrovnik, Split or from the nearby Pelješac Peninsula 🚢.

When you cross the finish line with salt on your skin and a smile on your face, it’s time to kick off your running shoes and begin a real island holiday. Mljet is an oasis of calm, perfect for a romantic weekend for two or unforgettable time with the family 🥰:

Exploring Mljet National Park and the Islet of St. Mary: A must on the itinerary. See two unique salt lakes (Veliko and Malo jezero), then hop aboard a little boat that will take you to a tiny islet in the middle of the lake, where an impressive 12th-century Benedictine monastery rises 🏛️.

A visit to Odysseus’ Cave (Odisejeva špilja): A magical spot on the island’s southern coast. Legend has it that this is where Homer’s Odysseus took shelter after a shipwreck and spent seven years under the spell of Calypso. The light streaming into the cave tints the water an incredible neon blue—an ideal place for cliff jumps into the water and snorkeling 🌊.

Blissful relaxation on the sandy Saplunara beach: Located at the eastern tip of the island, the bay is famous for beautiful sandy beaches, which are a true rarity in Croatia. Shallow, warm water surrounded by dense pine forest is a dream spot for recovery for tired legs 🏖️.

Traditional Dalmatian peka: After burning hundreds of calories on the trail paths, you have to try the local specialties. Order the famous octopus or lamb baked for many hours under an iron bell covered with embers (peka), try the traditional pasta (Mljetski makaruli) and taste the local red Plavac wine 🍷.

Lace up your shoes tight, pack your swimsuit, and let yourself be swept away by the wild nature on the Mljet Trail route!
