As they say in Slovenia ๐ธ๐ฎ: We didn't come here to pick mushrooms! ๐ But you'll try to remember that at the Half Marathon of Novo Mesto ๐. Located in Lower Carniola, the event welcomes you within its world-renowned archaeological heritage not to pick up pebbles either ๐ but to challenge yourself in the race of your choice! Among the 5 km, the 10 km and the half-marathon, you have a choice! And for more fun, the event also offers children's races ๐ฆ, a walk of 22 or 15 km, and a canicross for our furry pals ๐ถ.
The start of the half-marathon takes place in the historical center ๐๏ธ of Novo Mesto. Subsequently, the runners go through the city, along the meander of the Krka river. Oh yes, hang on! ๐คช You will follow this river for almost your entire race! ๐ Indeed, the course is in loop formโฆ And what a loop! ๐ณ Between urban sections and more natural portions, youโll transition from lively asphalt to shaded banks in a few strides. The course is flat and winding, perfect for aiming for a PR โฑ๏ธ or just enjoying a setting that alternates ancient alleys, historical bridges, and bucolic landscapes ๐ณ. And don't be surprised if you encounter some four-legged spectators or excited children at the roadside: the atmosphere here is friendly, gentle, and cute, just what we love at Finishers โค๏ธ.
With over 60% of Slovenian territory covered by forests, itโs a true chlorophyll boost in the green heart of Europe ๐ฒ. And if you're still in doubt: youโll literally run at the foot of the Julian Alps โฐ๏ธ, in an environment that makes you want to leave everything to raise goats and run barefoot all year round ๐.
And let's be honestโฆ Novo Mesto is Slovenia ๐ธ๐ฎ in a nutshell: culture, nature, sports, architecture, and that distinctive European touch, attracting runners every year from all over ๐. In short, whether you come to perform or to discover, here youโll find much more than just a finish line ๐.
So, are you ready to put on your sneakers for a unique experience in Slovenia? ๐คฉ
The course starts on Seidlova cesta and unfolds in a unique loop of 21.097 km. Very smooth: about 60 mD+, no steep hills, just a few gentle slopes ๐. You run along the Krka ๐ง for most of the route, alternating between smooth asphalt and shaded sections ๐ณ. The new Pipenbaher bridge ๐, the ฤrni Kal, offers you a clean push at km 8. Few sharp turns, enough width to overtake: ideal for setting a PR โฑ๏ธ.
The 10 km of Novo Mesto is two loops of 5 km on a fast and flat course ๐ฃ๏ธ. Negligible elevation, 100% asphalt surface, ideal for lengthening your stride without breaking the rhythm ๐จ. You cross the ล mihel Bridge ๐ง. Some gentle reaccelerations, smooth turns, and the Krka always in sight ๐. In short, a 10 km tailored for the negative split.
The 5 km of Novo Mesto is a single express loop designed for fun and performance โก. Almost zero elevation, asphalt, smooth turns, and a wide course: you can run without congestion. The Krka accompanies you all the way ๐, and the Leon ล tukelj bridge boosts you at km 3. Perfect for a first timer or to smash your short-distance record ๐.
The course of the Canicross will start in the center of the island and then follow the paths along the riverbank! ๐๏ธ
The route goes through the streets of the downtown area of Novo Mesto.
