The event in a few words

Have you ever run in a place where the spectators have four legs and spit when you're not fast enough ๐Ÿคช? Welcome to Ouarzazate, where only camels and dromedaries judge your stride! ๐Ÿช

Hold on tight because we're not talking about a little Sunday morning run in your local park! In November, you're invited to come sweat like never before (but in style ๐Ÿ˜Ž) in Ouarzazate, in Morocco ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ. Actually, the weather during this period is perfect ๐Ÿคฉ: between 11ยฐC and 20ยฐC! You have everything to be in top shape ๐Ÿซก. On the menu: a real marathon of 42 km (yes, the full package!) and a half-marathon, for those who just want to test, and even a relay marathon of 4 to share the suffering with friends (friendship is beautiful ๐Ÿฅฒ). But wait, it's not over ๐ŸŽ‰! Imagine packages of 3 or 5 nights in a hotel with your transfer from the airport ๐Ÿ›ซ for you and your companions (obviously without a bib on their side)? It's reality at the Ouarzazate Marathon! It's up to you to choose the most suitable option, and we assure you that the experience will only be better ๐Ÿ˜‰. In short, it's not just a marathon, it's a complete adventure like "Into the Wild" but with wifi and croissants for breakfast! ๐Ÿฅ

Let's not lie, 42 km is quite a long haul. BUT (and it's a big but), when you're running with a view of the Atlas ๐Ÿ”๏ธ on one side and the desert of the Sahara on the other ๐ŸŒต, your legs will oddly forget they should be begging you to stop ๐Ÿ™. Ouarzazate is THE city legendary of the Morocco, perched at 1,160 m high ๐Ÿ“ˆ (a little taste of altitude for your lungs ๐Ÿ’จ). Nicknamed "the Gateway to the Desert" ๐Ÿšช, it's also "Moroccan Hollywood" because tons of films and series have been shot here: Gladiator, Game of Thrones, The Mummy... In short, you'll be running on filming locations, you might even play Russell Crowe style "strength and honor" ๐Ÿ’ช at kilometer 35 when it really starts to burn! ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ

The marathon course is an insane mix: you'll go through desert areas where you'll feel like you're in a 4x4 commercial, pass by palm groves that appear out of nowhere (like a surprise oasis, and we're not talking about a concert of Noel and Liam Gallagher! ๐ŸŒด), pass by kasbahs made of earth that have centuries of history, all with the Atlas chain in the background taunting you with its snow-capped peaks. The colors constantly change: ochre, red, gold, green... it's like running in a giant Pantone palette ๐ŸŽจ. For the half-marathon (21 km), it's the same vibe but in "I want to enjoy without ending up crawling" mode ๐Ÿ˜“. You'll get all the beauty of the course, the landscapes, the atmosphere, but you'll finish with enough energy to eat a full tajine without falling asleep headfirst in the dish ๐Ÿ˜ด. And for the teams who want to share the love (and the pain), the 4-relais marathon is the perfect option! You'll divide the 42 km, about 10 km each and activate rocket mode ๐Ÿš€. It's friendly, it's fun, and above all, it allows for great memories among friendsโœจ! The best part of it all? The Moroccan hospitality! The locals will cheer you on as if you were Kipchoge himself. Expect "Yallah yallah!" (go go!), with cheers in a mix of French, Arabic, and Berber. The atmosphere is just incredible, warm, and it gives you wings ๐Ÿชฝ (or at least makes you forget your blisters).

Once you've recovered from your adventure and are walking normally again, it's time for you to discover why Ouarzazate is a must-see city. We've mentioned it earlier, but it's a bit like the hub of cinema ๐ŸŽฆ in Morocco. You can visit the Atlas studios ๐ŸŽฌ where many film and series sets ๐Ÿฟ remain. The Roman coliseum ๐ŸŸ๏ธ of Gladiator โš”๏ธ, Egyptian palaces, and reconstructed villages ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ are still there, and it's amazing! We also recommend a tour of the Kasbah of Taourirt ๐Ÿฐ, an earthen fortified palace dating from the 19th century. In addition to its architecture, it's a perfect spot ๐Ÿ‘Œ for incredible sunset photos ๐ŸŒ…! In the same vibe, you'll find the Aรฏt-Ben-Haddou Kasbah ๐Ÿœ๏ธ, a UNESCO World Heritage fortified village. That's right! And for some greenery, you can head to the oases and palm groves, particularly those of Fint and Skoura. It's a total escape! Now that we've talked about sports and culture, let's talk about the most important thing: food! ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Ouarzazate and its surroundings are the kingdom ๐Ÿ‘‘ of tajine (chicken, lemon, lamb, kefta), couscous, pastillas, and of course, mint tea at any time ๐Ÿต. If you're adventurous, don't hesitate to try the street food: that's where you'll eat the best (and the cheapest ๐Ÿ€). Pro tip: always order a freshly squeezed orange juice ๐ŸŠ, it's just divine!

4 reasons to join this race

Run in a movie and series set (literally) ๐ŸŽฌ
Have you ever run where Russell Crowe fought gladiators? Where Daenerys Targaryen freed slaves? No? Well, now you can! The course takes you through legendary filming locations, and honestly, it's pretty cool to be able to say "I ran my marathon in the Moroccan desert following in the footsteps of Game of Thrones." Instagram is going to love it, your friends will be jealous, and you'll have unforgettable memories! ๐Ÿ˜‰
The Moroccan hospitality that warms the heart (and motivates the legs) ๐Ÿ’›
Moroccans are known worldwide for their hospitality, and believe us, it's not a myth! During your race, the locals will cheer you on as if you were family and make you feel like a true champion. This human warmth can be found nowhere else, and it gives you incredible motivation to keep going. ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ
Packages galore ๐Ÿงณ
In addition to the 3 formats offered (simple marathon, relay, and half-marathon), you will have the opportunity to purchase runner and companion packs that include 3 or 5 nights in half-board with airport transfer and a bib. It's up to you to decide what suits you best. They don't do things halfway in Morocco: you'll be welcomed like a king! ๐Ÿƒ
Landscapes that make you forget the pain (or almost) ๐Ÿ˜…
Seriously, when you're running with snow-capped Atlas on one side, the ochre desert on the other, palm groves popping up out of nowhere and ancient kasbahs, your legs might forget they're hurting thanks to your eyes! It's simple, you'll experience very few other marathons that are as photogenic. And Ouarzazate is clearly at the top of the podium! ๐Ÿฅ‡

Message from the organizer:

"This is an international marathon that will keep evolving, we put everything in place so each participant can leave with lots of memories and come back to share the adventure with friends! Ouarzazate is a city to discover, rich culturally, humanly, and culinary, why not discover it through a marathon?"

A few more words

You will start your journey ๐Ÿƒ from the Kasbah Taourirt ๐Ÿฐ then head towards Ouarzazate for a loop ๐Ÿ” around the city, notably passing through the district of Hay El Wahda ๐Ÿœ๏ธ. At this point, you will have completed a good third of your run. After the loop, you'll head east towards Tamassinte where you'll enjoy some greenery ๐ŸŒด. You will cross Tifoultoute not without a few small climbs ๐Ÿ“ˆ before returning to your starting point ๐Ÿ, but this time to receive your medal! ๐Ÿฅ‡
