Do you know how to negotiate? 😎 Because Rambouillet is offering you an unbeatable deal: 7 km of city to warm up those calves, then 14 km of state-owned forest to recharge you! 🌲 Do the math: that’s 21 km—so a half marathon! 🏃 You win either way 😉.
Organized by Rambouillet Olympique, this 38th edition of the Rambouillet Half Marathon isn’t like the others. It’s THE departmental championship for the Yvelines, and as a bonus, a possible qualification for the French Championships 🇫🇷. In other words, if you’ve got legs and ambition, you’re in the right place 🏆. March in Île-de-France is a time when it’s neither too cold nor too hot. Just what you need to clock a time you’ll be proud of 🤩, without ending up like a cooked shrimp 🦐. And running in the forest at the start of spring 🌸, when everything’s budding and the air smells like nature waking up... it’s therapeutic—almost zen! 🧘 Well, zen up to km 15; after that it’s every runner for themselves 😂. Another cool thing is that March is exactly when you come out of winter training 🥶: you worked hard through the cold months ❄️, and now you can finally show what you’ve got!
The course concept? Simple but effective. You start from the town center of Rambouillet 🏘️, run through the streets with the castle as your view 🏰, and then bam! Off into the forest on smooth roads and bike paths 🚲. No sneaky roots, no knee-deep mud—just a solid surface where your legs can turn over nicely 😌. You’ll also get a little relaxing moment (or not) along the Étang d'Or. This half is the kind of course where you can truly focus on your performance without wondering if you’ll wipe out at the next turn 🤫. The route is fluid, marked to perfection 🧅, and the transitions between city and forest feel natural. You go from the crowd’s applause 👏 to birdsong without even noticing 🐦. Atmosphere-wise, with a maximum of 3,000 runners, it’s dense enough to be motivating but not a total crush either 🚙. You get just enough of that departmental-championship buzz without elbowing your way through 21 km.
The race is also open to people with a disability 💪. Yes—here, inclusion matters 🫶. Guides for visually impaired runners can also take part at no extra cost.
Once you’ve crossed the finish line 🏁 (and regained the use of your legs 🦵), Rambouillet has plenty to keep you busy. The castle and its park are royal (literally) 👑. Little historical anecdote: Louis XVI loved this place so much that he came here to hunt regularly. Well, you’re hunting a time ⏱️ more than a deer, but the idea is the same: you come to Rambouillet to treat yourself! 🦌 You can also visit the National Sheepfold if you’re on team animal 🐑, or the Étang d'Or for a nice stroll that’ll do your calves good (or your stomach if you’re in digestion mode 😜). And speaking of food, you’ll have no trouble finding what you’re looking for 👟. The local restaurateurs 🧑🍳 know hungry runners well! 🤤 There are even a few local specialties: the Rambolitain 🍰, a pastry to die for, or the Yolin, a kind of crustless quiche 🥧 but with flavors that will make you enjoy your stay even more. You’ll also find a fine string of cheeses, such as Mesnil Camembert 🧀. Plus, Rambouillet is barely 50 minutes from Paris by train, so it’s truly accessible for a hassle-free sporty weekend 🚄.
So, are you going for a royal half? 🤴
You’ll start your half marathon near the Stade du Vieux-Moulin 🏟️, Rue de l'Étang d'Or, then head north of Rambouillet along Rue G. Lenotre. You’ll run alongside the magnificent castle 🏰, a former residence of the kings of France 👑, before taking the Route de Saint-Léger at km 3. You’ll enter the state-owned forest via the Route de Rambouillet. You’ll cover its lovely cycle paths for about 10 km. You’ll get back to civilization east of the town, on Rue du Vieil Orme, and stride hard toward the south. You’ll pass by the racecourse 🐎 around km 17, as well as the Étang d'Or, before heading back to your starting point. One last loop will be waiting for you near the N10, and hopefully, deliverance will be there! 🏁
