The event in a few words

In Basque, korrika means “to run”: yes, you’re here to get those beautiful legs working, not to go sunbathing on the beach (not right away anyway) 😏. Every October, the Txingudi bay hosts this 10K set on the Bidasoa estuary, where France touches Spain with its toes. The start sets off from Hendaye, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and the finish awaits you on the other bank, in Hondarribia, right in the heart of the Spanish Basque Country 🇪🇸. As for the sky, the Atlantic plays the mildness card: pleasant temperatures, low late-summer Indian light, and a hint of sirimiri, the local drizzle that sometimes shows up without knocking 🤓.

The route leaves the Quai de la Floride and rolls out a smooth profile, made to swallow kilometers like hotcakes. 🏃 You’ll run along the bay, pass through Irun, then cross the border at a running pace by moving from one bank to the other—a change of country with no passport control, just your legs as a visa 🦵. The km 5 mat marks halfway before the final straight to the athletics track of the Hondartza sports center, where the clock stops on the cinders ⏱️. No wall, no sneaky tipping point: here, everything invites you to let it flow on this city-to-city format.

For its 27th edition, the event has taken care to welcome all body types. A handbike and wheelchair race sets off five minutes before the pack, with a free bib to boot 🤝. Yes, para sport matters a lot to the organizers. The youngest runners get their own meet-up too, the “Txingudi Korrika Txiki”, which is the course exclusively reserved for children, the morning before. And with only 1,000 bibs, the atmosphere stays human-sized, far from anonymous crowds.

Finishing in Hondarribia is perfect timing to recover properly by the seaside 🌊. The Marina district lines up its colorful fishermen’s houses and pintxos bars, where the Gilda—olive, anchovy and chili—pairs with txakoli, always served and enjoyed in moderation 🥘. Then stroll through the fortified historic casco before heading back to the French side to stretch your calves on the long beach of Hendaye 🇫🇷. Two countries, one bay, ten kilometers: you’ll leave with a single bib but a multitude of memories 😎.

In the end you’ll ask for more! “beste bat” as they say in the Basque Country! 🤩

4 reasons to join this race

You change countries while running 🌍
Few 10Ks offer you a start in France and a finish in Spain in the same stride 🇫🇷. Between Hendaye, Irun and Hondarribia, you'll cross a real border at the rhythm of your cadence, without slowing down 🇪🇸. A quick change of scenery that turns a simple timed run into a mini cross-border trip.
A fast, smooth course made for the clock ⏱️
On this course certified by the RFEA, the elevation leaves you alone and your legs do the talking. The records stand at 30:52 for men and 35:25 for women—enough to measure yourself 😏. Five start corrals and an army of pacers, from 35 min to 1h, help you aim right without going out too fast 🚀.
The boat crossing ⛴️
The geography of the bay gives you a bonus that few races can promise: getting to the start or back to your car by boat. The maritime shuttle links the two banks every 15 min with a 7-minute crossing, for €2.5 per trip 🌊. Logistics that smell like the estuary rather than a concrete parking lot 😉.
The pintxos finish in Hondarribia 🥘
Crossing the line on the Hondartza track is like opening the door to the Marina district and its gourmet counters. A well-deserved recovery between a Gilda, a glass of txakoli and a view of the harbor 😋. Hard to dream of better post-race fueling than the Basque Country on the plate 🍽️.

A few more words

The course starts from Quai de la Floride, in Hendaye, and follows a rolling, almost flat profile—ideal for going after a clean time 🏃. You’ll run along the Bay of Txingudi before switching to the Spanish side by crossing Irun, in a cross-border transition that gives the event all its flavor 🌊. Km 5 marks the halfway point, then the road rises toward the Hondartza sports center in Hondarribia, where the finish is on the athletics track ⏱️. Completely closed to traffic and marked at every kilometer point (then every 500, 300, 200, and 100 m as you approach the line), the course is certified by the RFEA and listed on the national level II calendar. With no significant elevation gain and no technical section, it’s the perfect playground for record chasers as well as for a successful first 10 km 🏁.
