The event in a few words

In 1418, lost Portuguese sailors stumbled upon a paradise island after days adrift at sea โ›ต๏ธ. They named this place "Madeira," meaning "wood" in Portuguese, due to the abundance of timber ๐Ÿชต. How about embarking on an adventure yourself? โš”๏ธ Welcome to the island of towering peaks, cliffs plunging into the Atlantic, and dense laurel forests listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site ๐Ÿ˜ฎ. To explore the island in all its glory, join the Ultra X Madeira, a perfect event for trail enthusiasts and elevation gains ๐Ÿ“ˆ.

Your November is bound to be unforgettable! ๐Ÿ Ultra X Madeira is your ticket to a mind-blowing adventure amid a breathtaking volcanic landscape ๐Ÿ’จ. On the agenda: 4 distances, ensuring everyone gets their fair share of challenge ๐Ÿฅต. If you're a fearless extreme runner, take on the 110 km to be completed over two days ๐Ÿ“. With its 3,685 mD+, this course will test both your mental and physical strength ๐Ÿฆต. Looking for something slightly less daunting? The event offers a 60 km with equally challenging elevation (yes, it's tough ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ), a 50 km with 2,815 mD+, or a 25 km that, despite its "modest" 1,970 mD+, will remind you that in Madeira, everything is uphill! Starting from the charming little town of Machico in the east, where you can make yourself at home, you'll embark on this tropical journey ๐Ÿฆœ. The routes will have you winding along the famous levadas, the 2,000 km long irrigation network ๐Ÿ’ง carving narrow paths through the island ๐Ÿ›ค๏ธ. Emerged in the 16th century, this network was developed to boost sugarcane agriculture, the "white gold" of the era ๐ŸŒพ. Water from the northern slopes was transported to the southern crops ๐Ÿค“. This route leads you through Madeira's most scenic landscapes ๐Ÿ˜. If youโ€™re afraid of heights, take a deep breath: some ridges are so steep that the Atlantic Ocean seems to want to swallow the cliffs ๐Ÿ˜จ.

The adventure concludes in Machico, right where it all began ๐Ÿ‘‡. Once there, explore the surroundings and indulge in the local cuisine ๐Ÿ˜‹. True to form, even Madeira's wines are adventurers ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ. The renowned Madeira wine owes its unique taste to a transportation mishap: in the 16th century, barrels shipped to colonies heated up under the tropical sun in ship holds ๐ŸŒž, only to return back to the sender... The result? A caramelized nectar now emblematic ๐Ÿท. But Madeira is celebrated for more than just wine โŒ. After such exertion, reward yourself with another local specialty: espetadas, ultra-fresh fish, or the exotic fruits growing everywhere ๐Ÿฅญ. Before leaving, save some energy for the island's most unusual attraction: the wicker sled ride in Funchal ๐Ÿ›ท. These quirky contraptions race down two kilometers of asphalt at high speed, steered by two burly men in straw hats ๐Ÿ‘’. It's a little thrill post-ultra, just to mix up the adrenaline rush โšก๏ธ.

So, are you ready to conquer Madeiraโ€™s peaks? โ›ฐ๏ธ

4 reasons to join this race

A Unique Playground โ›ฐ๏ธ
By joining the Ultra x Madeira, you'll climb, dash, and weave through the UNESCO-listed Laurisilva ๐ŸŒณ. It's not every day you get to run along the famous levadas on breathtaking ridges ๐Ÿ˜. Plus, you'll enjoy stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean ๐ŸŒŠ.
For the Elevation Enthusiasts ๐Ÿ“ˆ
110 km over two days, 60 km, 50 km, or 25 kmโ€ฆ Whatever your tolerance for pain (and beauty), you'll find your challenge ๐Ÿด. Each course features significant elevation gain ๐Ÿ’ฅ. Trust us, even the 'short' 25 km will give your thighs a workout ๐Ÿ”ฅ.
For the Perfect Climate ๐ŸŒก๏ธ
In November, while your friends shiver in the rain, you'll be running in 9 to 21ยฐC on tropical trails ๐Ÿ . Who said summer is over? Extend it in Madeira, with an option of spectacular landscapes โ˜€๏ธ.
For Combining Sport and Tourism ๐Ÿ๏ธ
Let's be honest, if you're heading to Madeira to runโ€ฆ it's for Madeira! ๐ŸŒž Once you've explored the island's natural wonders, check out the nearby towns ๐ŸŒ†. Stop by a local restaurant, taste the local specialties, and glide down Funchal's hills in a wicker toboggan ๐Ÿ›ท. Fair warning, you might just fall in love with this island ๐Ÿ˜.
