The city of Zurich? The Zurich Marathon of Barcelona? 🤔 Oh no, that's not what we're going to talk about here but rather the small village of Zurrieq and its road race! The Zurrieq Half Marathon & 10 km was long poorly rated due to the condition of its roads, but those days are over! 🤩 Since 2013, the course has changed, more attractive and with redone roads, enough to chase your PR on the distance! 😝 The city of Zurrieq has preserved its authenticity, so you will discover Malta in its simplest form! ✨
Under the cool temperatures of mid-November, you can choose to start a half marathon or a 10 km (as the race name suggests 🤓). And as it is a human-scale event, children will also be invited to the celebration with a Kids Race of 1.5 km! 🧒 The race's route will take you through Zurrieq and other typical villages around: Qrendi, Mqabba, Kirkop, and Hal-Far! 🏘️ The oldest villages of the island will unfold at your pace and you might not be able to stop until the finish line, as there won't be much elevation to worry about ❌. But beware not to get lost in a steep alley 🤫. So, are you ready? 😎
Don't want to stop, even after the finish line? 🏁 Just a few kilometers away, discover the majestic Blue Grotto and its emerald waters 🌊. For a moment of relaxation, the picturesque village of Marsaxlokk welcomes you with its typical fish market 🐠, perfect for a convivial lunch to satisfy your runner's appetite 🤤. If you are a history enthusiast, the megalithic site of Ħaġar Qim, a UNESCO World Heritage site 🌍, is a must-see 🖼️. For a slightly more urban touch 🏙️, wander through the charming streets of Valletta, the capital, which is full of traditional cafes and shops ☝️.
So cancel that ticket to Switzerland and head to Malta to run the Zurrieq Half Marathon and 10 km! 🌟
The half-marathon runs through a number of surrounding villages! 🏘️ Starting at the parish church of Zurrieq. At km 4, you will reach the village of Qrendi and then pass through Mqabba, Kirkop, and Hal-Far, which will mark the halfway point of your route 🗺️. You will then turn around to head back to Kirkop and reach the finish line at Zurrieq! 🏁
The start of the 10 km is just in front of the parish church of Zurrieq ⛪, you will reach Qrendi at km 4 and Mqabba at km 5. You'll then go to Kirkop and take the path to Zurrieq to cross the finish line! 🏁
