Today, we tackle an irresistible distance: the 5 km. It's like morning coffee ☕, gently waking you up and giving you a boost for the whole day! 💪
So, where does this running distance come from? 🏃It all dates back to the 1896 Olympic Games 🔥. The organizers thought: "5,000 m, sounds great for some real excitement, right? Besides, since it's short, the performances could be amazing". And bam! ⚡ The 5 km was born, quickly becoming the darling of tracks and streets 🌟.
So, what makes the 5 km such an epic experience? 🤩 It's simple: this distance is open to everyone, whether you're looking for a relaxed discovery or a high-level performance, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned runner seeking your PB ✨ (or "Personal Best" for the insiders). The 5 km is your best ally!
Speaking of performances, know that the world record for the 5 km is held by Berihu Aregawi, who absolutely took off on the road in an incredible 12 minutes and 49 seconds 😯 (that's 2 seconds better than the previous record by Joshua Cheptegei ⏱️). Impressive, isn't it? Among women 🙋♀️, it's the Kenyan Beatrice Chebet 🇰🇪 who holds the record🏆 with a time of 13 minutes and 58 seconds, at the Prefontaine Classic meeting in Eugene, in Oregon 🇺🇸.
In France, we take the 5 km seriously! Among the most notable events 👀, there's, of course, the iconic La Parisienne ✨, where women gather in the streets of the City of Light 🗼. And what about the Marathon Vert Rennes School Of Business? It's a 100% women race 🙋♀️, pressure-free and for women only 🚺. If you prefer a tougher, more mixed challenge, there's the Urban Trail of Lille 🏙️ with its nationally recognized 5 km 🇫🇷, attracting the biggest names in the discipline every year. Finally, if you're in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and want to combine an environmental cause ♻️, a charitable cause 🎗️, and running, then the Eco-Run des Cardons is for you! 🫵
