Race timing in Rennes

It's the question we all ask ourselves: how long does each participant take to complete their race? 🤔 That's exactly what timing is all about: measuring the time from start to finish to establish the rankings. Long handled with a stopwatch in hand, it is now electronic ⏱️. Chips attached to the bib, the shoe, or the bike are automatically detected on the ground as participants pass. In practical terms, this system relies on timing mats equipped with RFID antennas, placed on the ground on the start line, finish line, and intermediate checkpoints: each chip emits a unique frequency captured down to the thousandth of a second, guaranteeing a ranking with impeccable accuracy. It's also thanks to it that we distinguish official time (calculated from the start signal) from real time, which only starts when you cross the line—very handy when you start at the back of the pack!

So, in practical terms, what does that look like?
