Race Timing in Tours

It’s the question we all ask ourselves: how long does each participant take to complete their race? 🤔 That’s the whole point of timing, which measures the time from start to finish to establish the rankings. Long done with a handheld stopwatch, it is now electronic ⏱️. Chips attached to the bib, the shoe or the bike are automatically detected on the ground as you pass. Concretely, this system relies on timing mats equipped with RFID antennas, placed on the ground at the start line, finish line and intermediate checkpoints: each chip emits a unique frequency captured to the nearest thousandth of a second, guaranteeing rankings with impeccable accuracy. It’s also thanks to this that we distinguish official time (calculated from the starting signal) from real time, which only starts when you cross the line—very handy when you start at the back of the pack!
