The Western States 100-Miles Endurance Run hasn't always been run on foot! Originally, this legendary crossing of the California Sierra Nevada was an equestrian endurance race called the Tevis Cup. It was in 1974 that the pioneer Gordy Ainsleigh decided to take on the challenge... without a horse, thus giving birth to the very first 100-mile ultra-trail in history.
That’s how the race takes athletes through wild and extreme landscapes 🧳. After sending the heart rate soaring on the peaks of Olympic Valley, plunging into overheated canyons, and crossing the famous American River, the outcome of this legendary edition will be decided on the track in Auburn.
