Born on 27 October 1993 in Lyon, but Stéphanois at heart, Baptiste Chassagne is a French international ultra-trail runner backed by the On Running brand 🐓. Nothing destined him to climb summits. It was on football pitches that he started doing sport 🏟️. Then, he took his first strides on the asphalt of marathons until the day the call of the mountains changed everything. You’re about to discover how this man with a heart set to 40 BPM rose among the greatest runners on the planet!

From marathon straightaways to mountain switchbacks ⛰️

If you’re looking for a runner who fell into the cauldron of trail running at a very young age, come back later! Baptiste Chassagne first wore out his cleats on football pitches ⚽️. A fervent supporter of the legendary team with the panther, AS Saint-Étienne (where he would even have the honor of delivering a symbolic kickoff at Geoffroy-Guichard stadium in 2025), it was on the road that he laced up his first pairs of running shoes in search of new sensations 💚.

In 2016, he clocked 2h38'42" at the Lyon Marathon. But the calm of nature and the terrain of the woodlands ended up winning out over the monotony of the asphalt. He was first licensed at Athlé Calade Val de Saône, the athletics club of Villefranche-sur-Saône, then finally found his place at the Jogging Club Véranne, in the Loire. Suffice it to say that green and white rank much higher in his eyes than red and blue! 😉

In 2018, he shifted up a gear on the trails and made a big statement. A win at the SaintÉxpress, 44 km completed in 3h09'39", then another at the Marathon des Causses in Millau in Aveyron. The stage is set, the guiding thread of Baptiste’s career is drawn. He’s realizing that trail is no longer just a weekend pastime, but a true symbiosis with nature, elevation gain, and pushing beyond one’s limits 🏃.

Shining as a team and letting his pen speak 🪶

Why run solo when you can shine as a team? In 2023, Baptiste reached a major milestone in his career. He captured the title of French long trail champion at the Cité de Pierres, 68 km completed in 5h32'42". This national victory flung wide open the doors to the French national team 🇫🇷.

At the Trail World Championships in Innsbruck-Stubai in 2023, then in Canfranc in 2025, he won team gold in the tricolor colors 🥇. Alongside his strides in the mountains, Baptiste expresses his passion through words. A committed entrepreneur and founder of the 40 BPM communications agency, he likes to write down his sensations 📝. For him, every race is a story, every bout of suffering has a word, and every finish line has an image.

The meteoric rise toward the most legendary summits on the planet 🌎

The love story between Baptiste and the long distances takes a legendary turn on the paths of Chamonix 🏞️. After a hope-filled 10th place in his first UTMB in 2023 (21h38'11"), he came back with determination in August 2024. At the end of a controlled race and flawless consistency, he claimed a superb 2nd place on the loop around the Mont-Blanc massif, 176 km and 10,000 mD+, with a benchmark time of 20h22’45”.

Did you really imagine he’d ease off after that? In October 2025, he flew to the Indian Ocean to take on the mythical and terrifying Diagonale des Fous. On this volcanic island of Réunion 🇷🇪, he delivered an extraordinary pacing performance to win after 23h31'54" of effort. Unstoppable, he confirmed his status as an ultra monster! Baptiste was crowned in 2026 by winning the Grand Raid Ventoux, 87 km in 8h00’24", and by repeating his feat with a new 2nd place at the UTMB! 😳

Rooted facing Mont-Blanc with the drive for new summits 🗻

It is in Combloux, in Haute-Savoie, that he finds his haven of peace. In addition to running on the summits and running his agency, Baptiste Chassagne is a partner in managing Maison Baud 🧑‍🍳, a historic hotel-restaurant also located in Combloux. At the foot of Mont-Blanc, he helps run this friendly establishment with his partners, completing his atypical profile: top-level athlete, communications professional/copywriter, and mountain restaurateur/host!

After winning the blue jersey of team world champion, rubbing shoulders with the summits on the UTMB podium and taming the Diagonale des Fous 🤯, Baptiste Chassagne hasn’t lost any of his hunger for kilometers. Now settled in, the Stéphanois approaches the next phase of his career with ever wilder ambitions 👀. In his sights: the desire to take on the American giants that are the Western States 100 or the Hardrock 100. Still driven by the pride of wearing the tricolor jersey at upcoming international appointments, this lover of words continues to combine training rigor and a passion for storytelling 📖. Baptiste is ready to write the most beautiful pages of his sporting story, with a cool head and a heart set to his 40 BPM. 🫀
