Run In Lyon by Harmonie Mutuelle
Unleash your best roar and become the king of the Finishers! 🦁
Are you looking for a good reason to run in your beloved city? The "Run in Lyon by Harmonie Mutuelle" is THE ultimate running festival where you can uncover the secrets of a city rich in history and culture alongside thousands of runners. Yes, because the "Run In" is mainly a running festival held in the most beautiful cities of France 🇫🇷! This festival offers several routes allowing you to run according to your abilities and desires... all while discovering the beauty of our heritage! ⭐ This time, the celebration takes place in Lyon (we're sure you guessed it 😅)! The program is full, rich in emotion and beauty. So, are you ready? One, two, three... Ready? Roar Run! 🏃♀️
The beautiful region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes welcomes you in the month of October, during autumn, to help you prepare for the season of raclette, sausage brioche, and quenelles 😋. You'll make room in your stomach by doing a bit of sport! To let off steam, you can choose between 4 road race courses: a marathon, half-marathon, 10 km, and 5 km. Note that young Lyonnais and Lyonnaises can also try their hand at running during this grand event! Enough to roar with pleasure, isn't it? 😏
But let's get into more detail... The marathon is certainly a must-see in the competition 🏆. Why? Well, because it has the significant advantage of letting you cross the city lengthwise, and believe us, there's a lot to see! You'll pass through the city's most iconic corners, crossing several districts, an island 🗾, and two rivers 🌊. If you're not into marathons, you can join the half-marathon which will also show you beautiful sights. You might, for instance, wander the gentle paths of the famous Parc de la tête d'Or 🌳 and walk on the ancient cobblestones of Vieux Lyon.
You'll also be pleased to know that for the third consecutive year, the 10 km and the half-marathon are open to para-athletes! And the good news is that many profiles are accepted: from joëlette runners ♿ to athletes with visual impairment. Continuing in this beautiful spirit of sharing, openness, and solidarity, you should know that the 5 km is a charity run. Indeed, €4 from each bib sold will be donated to ANTS. This Lyon association has the main goal of making physical activity accessible to people with any motor deficit 🧑🦽➡️. By doing so, it promotes their inclusion through equal access to adapted physical activities and new technologies thanks to its S.P.O.R.T. centers in Lyon and Grenoble.
No wonder there's such a crowd rushing at the door... The city of lights has been a cradle of culture, art, gastronomy, history... and cinema! 🎬 As you know, the Lumière brothers are from the capital of Gauls. You'll have the opportunity to trace the footsteps of these two exceptional figures who pioneered a new art 🎭.
But that's not all! You'll uncover the secrets of the beautiful city with its multiple disco balls 🪩. You'll be dazzled... so much so that you'll feel like you're at the "Festival of Lights" 🤩! Like in Paris, the city boasts riverbanks, those of the Rhône and the Saône, lined with many flower-decked barges. Like in Marseille, a beautiful building is perched on the city's heights: the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Like in ancient Roman cities, you'll discover a charming old town and a massive Gallo-Roman theater 🏺, hidden behind the city.
Otherwise, you can always explore one of the city's many museums, enjoy a brunch at Croix Rousse ❌ (the hip neighborhood), shop at Part Dieu, watch the two rivers collide at Confluence, and have a coffee at Place Bellecour. But above all, above all, above all... You can comfort yourself by indulging in a Bouchon Lyonnais. Everyone knows: Lyon is the capital of French gastronomy, so let's give it the honor it deserves! Finally, to digest and relax your sore muscles, you can take a good walk in the famous Monts du Lyonnais.
And to ensure your cups don't end up in the Rhône or in nature, this race is committed to the planet. It aims for "zero waste" by using recycled water bottles. The organizers have even set up a second-hand clothing collection system ♻️! Moreover, a partnership between "Run In Lyon" and the Restos du Cœur ❤️ has been established to prevent wastage at the refreshment stations! Doing good for the planet while thinking of others... How can you dream of anything better?! 🤫
Now you know everything! Now it's up to you to decide if you choose to believe the saying... The more it's Lyon, the better it is! 🤤
The Run in Lyon marathon will start, like the other races, in front of the Palais de Justice of Vieux-Lyon, in the 5th arrondissement of the city. You'll then notice that the beginning of the route is the same as the half marathon: you'll follow the banks of the Saône for 8 km before turning at the Paul Bocuse Bridge 👨🍳. Once on the other side of the Saône, you'll head down towards Caluire-et-Cuire and the cemetery of the Croix Rousse, following the banks. You'll then be at the 14th km when you arrive at the Place des Terreaux. Come on, the best is yet to come! 😏 You'll then head towards the Parc de la Tête d'Or, which you'll extensively explore for your greatest joy! 🌼 It will then be time to start the second part of the route: the descent to Gerland, its park and stadium. Then head towards Confluence to see the two rivers collide from the Raymond Barre bridge before heading to the iconic Place Bellecour to cross the finish line. Congratulations finisher, you are officially a marathon runner! 🏅
Just like for the other races, you will need to head to the starting line located in the Old Lyon 👨🦳, near the Palais de Justice. You will then follow the Saône 🌊 for 8 km before taking the Paul Bocuse Bridge. Once on the other side of the river, you will follow the banks through Caluire-et-Cuire, then the Croix Rousse district before heading to the Place des Terreaux. You will be at km 17 when you cross the Morand Bridge. You will then reunite with the Place Bellecour by passing the Guillotière Bridge. Congratulations, you've completed a half marathon! 👏
You will start at Quai Romain Rolland, in front of the Lyon Court of Appeal, on Sunday, October 22, 2023. You will then follow the banks of the Saône, on the Old Lyon side, before heading towards the peninsula via the Pont Robert Schuman. You will then reach the 4th arrondissement, which is the Croix Rousse neighborhood 👩🦰. You will then pass by the iconic Place des Terreaux before crossing the Pont Morand. From there, you will follow the Rhône before heading back to Place Bellecour to reach the finish line.
And good news! This race is also open to athletes with disabilities ♿.
For this solidarity race, know that a portion of the proceeds collected will be donated to an association: Kabubu. This association aims to promote the social and professional inclusion of exiled individuals through sports, by creating social connections between exiled people (asylum seekers, refugees, migrants) and locals (French and European). Beautiful projects that should help with professional inclusion by creating training opportunities in sports! 🤸♂️
"Alright, that's all well and good, but what's the program?", you must be wondering. So here's the answer: you will start from the courthouse, in Old Lyon, on Sunday, October 22 to begin your city journey 🌇. From there, you will start along the banks of the Saône until the Pont de la Feuillée. You will then cross the peninsula from West to East, passing by the famous Place des Terreaux and the Fine Arts Museum and the City Hall 🙌. You will then cross the city's second river, the Rhône, via the Pont Morand. You will then follow the banks before heading back to Place Bellecour by turning at the Pont de la Guillotière 🏁.
