Théo Le Boudec, the Breton ultra-trail runner who always keeps a sprint in reserve

Originally from Brittany, where he grew up on the trails of the Côtes-d'Armor, Théo Le Boudec is one of the rising stars of French ultra-trail. Having studied at the IUT of Saint-Brieuc, he swapped coastal paths for the ridgelines of the Mercantour. He now lives in Venanson, a hilltop village at 1,150 m in the Alpes-Maritimes, and runs for the Cimalp – Département 06 team ⛰️ . His father took him to his first Breton trail races, before the kid went on to win the LyonSaintéLyon 2024 and three straight UTCAM 🏁 .

From Breton granite to the Grands Causses 🌊

Before the Alpine passes, Théo cut his teeth on familiar ground. In 2019, he finished as the top junior at the Trail des Kaos or the Trail du Barrage in Ploufragan. Two years later, he lengthened his stride and won the 52 km at the Trail des Légendes de Brocéliande, deep in the Paimpont forest. In October 2021, the young Breton arrived in the Grands Causses for his first long trail. He won the Intégrale des Causses (67 km, 3,000 m D+) at the Festival des Templiers. A year later, he was back in Millau and won the Marathon Trail des Causses in 3h55, on a route far more demanding in elevation gain than a road marathon. Three days later, he won the Endurance Trail (107 km, 5,000 m D+) in 11h06 ⏱️. In February 2023, he created an anecdote that made all of Brittany smile: he won the Nocturnes du Pain Chaud (16 km) in Lanfains, a race he wasn’t even registered for at the start 🥖. In April, he crossed the border and won the 100 km of the Istria 100 by UTMB, on the Istria peninsula in Croatia.

Théo Le Boudec, a finisher in the literal sense 🦵

His trademark? Keeping one last bullet for the final meters. In late November 2024, he lined up for the LyonSaintéLyon, the 160 km out-and-back of the Asics SaintéLyon. He produced a spectacular comeback and won in 17h21'44", just a few seconds ahead of Tanguy Warin. That same weekend, Marie Goncalves won the 80 km SaintéLyon. Yet 2025 got off on the wrong foot, with a DNF at the Grand Raid Ventoux by UTMB in April. In May, despite a ligament rupture 🩹, he took on the Alsatian gamble at the Ultra-Trail des Païens (116 km). For sixty kilometers, he played cat and mouse with the Finn Juuso Simpanen 🐭 . The final sprint was decided by 10 seconds in his favor, in 10h06'22". In September 2025, he claimed 2nd place in the 100 miles in Nice in 19h52'12", six seconds ahead of the Belgian Nicolas Thomas, after a breathless duel on the Promenade des Anglais. Three sprint finishes in under a year, all on races from the UTMB World Series circuit—one could almost believe he trains on the track.

UTCAM, his backyard… and record territory 🏆

On home soil, Théo Le Boudec rules the Ultra-Trail Côte d'Azur Mercantour. He won in 2024 in 15h01'30", then in 2025 in 15h22'43". In July 2026, he finished in 14h25'43" over the 120 km, in nearly 28°C heat 🔥. At the UTMB, the progression shows on the clock: 33rd in 2024 (24h44'37"), then 22nd in 2026 in 21h27'37" 🏔️.
