No need to cross the Atlantic to participate in this race! 🇨🇦
Despite its misleading name, the Canadian Race takes place in the Pas-de-Calais department, in the Hauts-de-France region, for a full immersion at the historical site of Vimy 🇫🇷. The event takes place in June, to commemorate notable moments of our collective memory 🕊️. With 5 events in total, the competition unfolds over an intense day 💥.
This event offers various courses. You can choose between the Little Race of 5 km, the Speed Race of 11 km or the larger course: the trail of 22.6 km 🌲. For those who enjoy team spirit, the Full Race allows to register as a team with one runner on each distance 🤝. Each time is added up and the ranking is based on the total times of each participant ⏳. If you're not into running, opt for the 11 km walk 🚶♂️. So why is this race called the "Canadian Race"? 🤔 We explain: Vimy was the site of a great Canadian victory during World War I 🫡. The course is a real dive into the past, between Lens and Arras 🏰. Indeed, in 1922, France granted Canada exclusive and perpetual use of these 107 hectares to thank its soldiers 🇨🇦. The route will make you climb the famous Vimy Ridge, a demanding passage that will challenge your calves 🚀. You will discover the Canadian Memorial, whose two pylons represent France and Canada in peace 🏳️. Did you know that the memorial was built with 6,000 tons of very rare limestone from Croatia, as it was the only one capable of resisting erosion while remaining white? 💧You learn something new every day with Finishers 🤓. The organization also offers children's races with various distances based on their age 🧒.
To extend the experience, the Vimy area is full of activities for the whole family 🧑🧑🧒. You can visit the restored trenches and underground tunnels like the Grange Tunnel, where soldiers awaited the final assault in complete darkness 🔦. It's a life-size history lesson that will captivate the youngest 👆. Nearby, the Louvre-Lens or the squares of Arras offer must-see cultural outings 🖼️. If you prefer relaxation, the surrounding parks are perfect for a walk after the race 🌳. One thing is certain: you won't leave Vimy quite the same after conquering this legendary ridge 🥇.
