Ladies and gentlemen, we are beginning our descent into Taipei, the fascinating capital of Taiwan ๐๏ธ. Please fasten your seatbelts, return your seats to the upright position, stow your traysโฆ and prepare your heart to fall in love with the island of a thousand flavors ๐. We hope you enjoyed your journey aboard EVA AIR and wish you good luck for your marathon ๐ฌ.
That's surely what you'll hear if you sign up for the EVA Air Marathon ๐คฉ. In October, fasten your seatbelt, adjust your bib, and get ready for a flight in marathon class through the bustling streets, hidden temples, and urban landscapes of this state of 168 islands. Whether you're into long-haul marathons, semi-runs, or express getaways ๐, here everyone boards at the same level ๐ซถ. You have the choice between 3, 10, 21, or 42 km. EVA Air โ a 5-star airline โญ๏ธ โ is not only the official sponsor of the race but also the very first witness to your achievement, since the finish line is almost beneath one of their aircraft wings, near Songshan Airport ๐ฌ. The course? It's major tourism in aerodynamic version ๐จ. You'll follow the Keelung River like a tranquil dragon ๐, pass through the Yingfeng Riverside Park, cross the Huandong viaduct, and traverse the Nanhu Bridge ๐. It's smooth, it's fluid, almost zen ๐ง. The course is flat with a few turns and one or two climbs to remind you that yes, we are in the subtropical Asia, but overall, it's a gentle route ๐. We hope you'll be ready for the wake-up call โฐ, as you'll be starting at the first light of dawn ๐ , caressed by a magnificent sunrise (if you're lucky with the weather) โ๏ธ. But let's be honest, when it's to run in a city as vibrant as Taipei, getting up is easy ๐. If running a marathon or a half isn't your thing, you can always do the 3 and 10 km for a condensed experience of the capital ๐.
But this event is also a round-trip ticket for total immersion in Taiwanese culture โฉ๏ธ. In terms of cultural baggage ๐งณ, this city doesn't kid around: a getaway to the Yilan County to taste a Kavalan whisky or admire the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial. You can also make a climb in the Taipei 101 tower which rises to 508m, it was the tallest in the world before the Burj Khalifa was built. And above allโฆ the cuisine ๐ฅ. After crossing the finish line, you just have to make a flight to the Raohe Night Market ๐ for a gourmet stopover between skewers, dumplings, and stinky tofu (we don't force you, but it's a rite of passage ๐). And if your calves survive the race, they'll appreciate the Wulai hot springs, perfect for a well-deserved muscle recovery. You understand, this trip doesn't end at the finish line โ. The EVA Air Marathon is a guaranteed ticket to a place where sport, tourism, and local hospitality meet 10,000 feet above the ordinary ๐๏ธ.
So, ready to hit the asphalt of the runway of Taipei streets? โ๏ธ
Alcohol is to be consumed in moderation โ ๏ธ.
The start is from Boulevard Ketagalan, near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. You will run through the streets for 7.5 km before reaching the city's banks. You will cross the nearby docks and continue your way to the 12th km. Almost the entire marathon is held along the water. At the 18th km, you will cross the Nanhu Bridge๐ again to reach the opposite banks and continue on the Nanhu Right Bank Riverside Park๐ดโโ๏ธ bike path. You will climb the ramp on the right bank of the MacArthur 1st Bridge and then descend the ramp on the left bank of the MacArthur 1st Bridge. Then you need to continue on the Guanshan Left Bank Riverside Park bike path and then on the Yingfeng Left Bank Riverside Park bike path.
You will finish by passing under the Dazhi Bridge to the finish line! ๐โโ๏ธ
It's the same course as the marathon, but you'll go directly across the 2nd MacArthur Bridge to the finish line.
