Welcome to the Hybrid Ultra 🌀, the only place where you run in circles (almost) without getting bored. In August, head to Apples in Switzerland 🇨🇭, located in the district of Morges. It's a beautiful spot, but you might not see much of the scenery... 🫣 This race is a 6.7 km loop to be run every hour ⏱️. Do the math... 🤔 Yes! That adds up to 160 km. Inspired by the Backyard Ultra format, this race will literally drive you nuts 😵💫.
Ready to run until your brain melts or everyone else gives up? 🧠 If your answer is yes, you're in the right place! The concept is simple (almost too simple to be true). You run a 6.7 km loop, rest, and BOOM, you're off again 🤪. And then you'll think: "Hey, this tree looks familiar...🌳" Naturally, you've passed it 8 times already 😵💫. But don't worry, you don't have to be a super-fit ultra-elite to join ✋. You show up, do the first loop, test yourself, and then do another. And another. And another… Until you crack! 🔄 It's a way to find out how far you can go mentally and physically, because your first competitor is yourself 🫵. But wait... you have another formidable opponent: time ⏰. If you don't make it back before the hour is up, you're disqualified ❌. You can also decide to give up (but you're a fighter, right 👀). The big winner is the one who completes the 24 laps in 24 hours. If more than one participant remains at the end, the first to cross the finish line wins the challenge 1️⃣.
In short, it's a race of mental endurance. You need to put on your best poker face: you feel pain? Smile 😁. You feel like crying? Say you’ve never felt better 😄. Basically, you have to bluff as hard as you can, because the slightest sign of weakness can make a difference 💪. And above all… you didn't run 160 km only to stop because a guy in Crocs looked fresher than you 🤣. You'll need to have a well-thought-out strategy 🧅, as managing effort, sleep, and nutrition becomes crucial to last as long as possible ⏳. But between loops there’s the spirit of the event: the cheers 👏, the festive atmosphere, the conversations in the rest area, and warm meals at 4 AM. And that is priceless 😍.
And after the race? Switzerland will welcome you with open arms for some comfort 🫂. Then it’s a different challenge: one local delicacy per hour for 24 hours. Fondue, raclette, Älplermagronen, Swiss chocolate... You'll surely optimize your recovery 💪.
So, are you ready to enter the loop? 🌀
You will have to repeat a loop of 6.7 km every hour until you drop... or until everyone else drops before you 🫵. You can stop after one loop or aim for the 24 laps, which means 160 km of pure mental endurance and hypnotic repetition 😵💫. This Backyard Ultra format will make you love and hate the same trail over... and over... and over again... 😵💫.
