The event in a few words

It goes without saying: Copenhagen is a city of contrasts! The largest city in Denmark 🇩🇰, this small North European country 🇪🇺, caressed by the waters of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, nests on the edges of Zealand Island, facing the strait leading to Sweden 🇸🇪. It was here that the Vikings, Scandinavian explorers, traders, and pirates, founded a fishing village in the 10th century. And they definitely had a good nose for location! 👃 By the early 15th century, Copenhagen became the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark 👑 and later, one of Europe's most important cities. This historical and beautiful place will host the Copenhagen Half Marathon 🏃 in September.

The valiant Vikings would be proud to know that their humble fishing village 🎣 has also become a globally renowned half-marathon venue 🌎: thanks to its utterly flat terrain that could make a trail runner's heart skip a beat, Copenhagen boasts incredibly fast road races ⚡️. The Copenhagen Half Marathon even witnessed the world record for the distance being smashed in 2019 by Geoffrey Kamworor 🇰🇪 (58 minutes and 1 second). Even the famous Little Mermaid 🧜‍♀️ had shivers on her scales!

While it might not be advisable to show up in Copenhagen with a helmet, shield, and axe 😅, you can certainly prepare to experience the uniquely Danish joy known as hygge (pronounced "hoo-ga" 🤓), which easily outshines any Viking roars! Through these moments of bliss found in the simple joys of life and sharing with loved ones, you can line up at the starting line of the half-marathon with a light heart 🥰. If you want your legs to be as light as your spirit 🌬️, choose the local delicacies carefully because beer 🍺 and smorrebrod, the national dish consisting of a giant open sandwich with imaginative toppings 🙃, might not be your best allies just before the race! 😂

Before or after the race, which takes place on Sunday morning, Copenhagen's treasures await discovery: monuments and museums, an adrenaline rush at the Tivoli Gardens (an amusement park over 170 years old! 🫠), a dive into the underwater world at the giant aquarium Den Bla Planet 🦈, or even hygge on a bench along the Christianshavn canals... You'll live like royalty! 🤴

So, when are you booking your Viking weekend in Copenhagen? 🛫 Hopefully soon, because spots are selling like hotcakes. Understandably, it's a SuperHalfs event, after all! 🏃‍♀️

4 reasons to join this race

A Champion's Race 🙌
The Copenhagen Half Marathon is no joke! The course is perfectly designed to smash personal bests ⏱️. Its flat layout featuring long straightaways ensures you won't lose a second towards your goal. Get ready for your shoes to catch fire! 🔥
A Multitude of "Power Zones" 📣
To push you to your limits, the organizers have arranged for no less than 20 "power zones", essentially hot spots where you'll recharge your batteries 🔋. Live music, electrifying DJs, choirs, rock bands, and ecstatic spectators will make you forget about your aching calves 🥳.
Easily Accessible City 👊
Just a 2-hour flight from Paris or Lyon, Copenhagen is an easily accessible destination perfect for a sporty city break. No jet lag upon your return, just maybe a bit of stiffness in your legs by the coffee machine on Monday morning! 😇
An Exotic Getaway 🤩
Just because Copenhagen is relatively close doesn't mean you won’t feel like you're in a whole new world. From multicolored seafront facades to chic institutional buildings, and from cozy coffee shops to the elegant boutiques on Frederiksberg, you'll feel like you've traveled to the far corners of the earth 🗺️.

    A few more words

Channel the conquering spirit of the Vikings to tackle the 21.1 km of a fast and spectacular route 💥.

Your journey begins in the Osterbro district, with its charming little squares and adorable boutiques 🥰, followed by an exploration of the Botanical Garden 🌿, Rosenborg Castle 🏰, and Nyboder. It's then you'll enter Frederiksstaden, where, if you don’t run too fast, you'll see the Royal Danish Theatre 🎭 and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts 🖼️. Your sightseeing – with a splash of athleticism, because you're not here to dawdle! 😏 – continues across Vesterbro, with its wide boulevards dotted with basketball courts 🏀, coffee shops, and cool spots tempting enough to make you want to pause for a moment and soak it all in.

As you reach the halfway point, you'll need to summon your inner warrior spirit ⚔️ to keep pushing through Frederiksberg, an elegant neighborhood with long straight avenues leading to Norrebro, where a mix of cultures creates a vibrant and colorful area 🏳️‍🌈. You'll give one final roar 🐯 as you cross the finish line at Parken Stadium to the cheers of an ecstatic crowd 🏁. Don’t worry, no one will be throwing axes or swords at you; the Viking era is indeed over! 😁
