The Saint-Witz Half Marathon is a historic race, first held in 1979 ๐ต (the same year the first Walkman was released, so you know it's been around for a while! ๐ผ), taking place in the heart of the Val d'Oise, located in รle-de-France. The event happens at the end of March! Itโs the last month of cool weather in this area ๐ฌ๏ธ before the summer temperatures roll in. It can be chilly in the mornings, so here's a tip: warm clothes! ๐งฆ
Great news: you have a choice of distances to explore the local roads ๐. Three distances are offered: a 5 km, a 10 km, and a half marathon. And what about the kids? ๐ง No worries, they're not forgotten; there are also three kids' races. A 2,600 m race, a 1,200 m race, and a 900 m race! Just a heads-up, these races arenโt for slackers! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ No excuses for not putting on your running shoes! ๐
The shorter distances are centered around Saint-Witz, a quaint countryside town just 30 km from Paris. You'll pass by the "Seven Lakes", those seven lakes in a row that give the town its unique character ๐ฃ. The "Three Villages" race (the 10 km) and the half marathon share the same route ๐ค. The well-known three villages you pass through are Saint-Witz, Vรฉmars, and Plailly, located in the Oise department. This route takes you through part of the Oise-Pays de France Regional Natural Park, with its lush forests, heaths, and meadows ๐ฟ. It's an incredible spot for running! The colorful landscapes of flower fields and abundant wildlife ๐ป, including amphibians and crickets ๐ฆ, will immerse you in this true haven of peace โ๏ธ.
But if you're looking for more thrills after the run and sightseeing isn't quite enough, good news: Parc Astรฉrix ๐ข is just 5 minutes away, in the village of Plailly.
