The event in a few words

The year 2026 marks new challenges for the Aviron Bayonnais 🎯.

It's indeed the first time the Aviron Bayonnais Rugby Pro stadium will not see scrums for a weekend! 🤪 Yes, in MayBayonne will swap its Top 14 🏉 rugby players for highly motivated runners 🏃. No need for cleats or mouthguards to tackle the kilometers of AVIRUN. You just need to bring your best running shoes and elbow your way to the starting line! 💪

The mythical rugby club is launching a sporting event centered around running: AVIRUN. This festive (and sporty! ☝️) event will offer various distances so everyone can enjoy according to their level 😉. 5 km, 10 kmhalf marathon : there's something for everyone! Young budding athletes will also have the chance to run inside the Stade Jean-Dauger, how cool is that? ✨ By the way, we crunched the numbers, a half marathon represents crossing approximately 210 rugby fields consecutively, quite the feat 😯. Whether you're pinning a bib for the first time or you're a seasoned road runner, you'll surely find the right fit🦶. Each course will allow you to discover, at your pace, the charming streets of Bayonne as well as the iconic monuments 😍. Bayonne is a city that loves to celebrate, unite, share, as it does with the traditional Bayonne festivals 🎉. And, beyond the runners, you can also count on the supporters to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a match at Jean-Dauger🏟️. Let's be honest, with the Bayonne crowd, there will certainly be as much singing, shouting, and enthusiasm as on a derby night against Biarritz 🤼‍♂️.

A few minutes away, you have the beautiful towns of Biarritz,Bidart, and Saint-Jean-de-Luz or even Hendaye! 👀 Beyond the landscapes, you'll discover a real way of life in these small parts of France 🇫🇷. Oh yes, don't forget to stop by the magnificent Halles de Bayonne😋. They house about twenty artisans and traders who highlight local products. Besides, when it comes to gastronomy, the local star is Bayonne ham! 🐷

Participate in the unique match of AVIRUN on the grounds of Aviron Bayonnais Rugby Pro: it's now! 😎

Join AVIRUN and enjoy a unique experience in Bayonne, at the heart of a city of sport, history, and nature. AVIRUN is a genuine challenge—accessible to recreational runners as well as dedicated athletes chasing a PB.

Starting from the Palais des Sports de Lauga, a major venue for Bayonne sport events, the routes will take you toward the Floride district and then through the streets and moats of the old town, between ramparts and traditional Basque façades. The courses wind through the lanes, moats, and historic areas of Petit and Grand Bayonne, offering a true journey into the city’s heritage—ramparts, Basque architecture, and beautiful viewpoints included. Expect a vibrant race-day atmosphere, fueled by Bayonne’s sporting spirit.

Over 21.0975 km, the half-marathon alternates technical sections and faster stretches, with 203 m of elevation gain and 189 m of descent. Part of the course will be run as a loop to keep the route 100% within Bayonne, with an approximately 6 km section to be completed twice.
You’ll also enjoy long, runnable segments along the Nive and the Adour—perfect to settle into your pace—plus crossings over three iconic bridges: Henri-Grenet, Charles-Vaillant, and Pont Blanc.

This variety of terrain keeps the course lively and never monotonous, mixing short climbs, technical passages, and long straights where you can really open your stride.

All three races end with an emotional finish—especially thanks to a spectacular final stretch inside Stade Jean-Dauger, the home of Bayonne rugby. A lively, festive race village awaits to keep the AVIRUN experience going.

The 5K (39 m elevation gain) and 10K (111 m elevation gain) are adapted versions of the half-marathon route.
